There is no possibility to dual a ranger to mage for *the ranger-mage is no valid multiclassing option* !!!

I think a ranger, just as his melee counterpart is a wee bit party-dependent. He is however, more survivable than a kensai for his better AC and his stealth ability. That gives some interesting playing options. I also thought about choosing the archer kit but I didn´t play it for I was too fascinated by my halfling heroes.

It could be a nice thing to use (a) crossbows for an archer (1d8 damage per bolt) and a nice variety of *exceptional* crossbows and bolts or (b) shortbow for with tansheron´s bow (the ghost arrows can hurt even stone- and irongolems, haven´t yet tried the bow on adamantite ones) and gesens bow (also ghs arrows with electrical damage) you have some awesomely effective weapons at hand (and no ammo problems).
For melee I´d suggest to use the *-weapon proficiency limit to your advantage and spend slots on the different weapon types like longswords (namarra, a +4 sword), katanas, maces (blunt damage for golems & skeletons and with a certain mace vs. undead) or flails (flail-of-the-ages vs. trolls) to be able to use the apropiate weapon for every enemy.

And Tyresian is right: The arrows of piercing give +4 on THACO and +1 on damage.

When soloing an archer, make sure that you give him the short bow proficency *****, because of the Tansheron's short bow(+3 weapon) and the short bow of Gesen(+4 weapon).

None of them require arrows, and are very powerful indeed, and Tansheron's short bow can be bought early in the game in Trademeet from the Noble look like merchant.

Damage rating with T. bow at lvl 17: 1D6+4+5+2=12-17/hit
Damage rating with G. bow at lvl 17: 2+4+5+2+1D8=14-21/hit

With the boots of speed 4 attacks/round is possible, so damage is 48-68/round(T), and 56-84(G).

    THAC0 is also very high at lvl 17: base 4..-2(18 dex)-5(class bonus)-2(proficency bonus)-3(weapon bonus)-1(gauntlets of weapon expertise)-1 (Helm of Balduran)= -10! A real sniper it is.

Boots of speed do not affect your attack speed at all; only your run speed.

[IMG] shadowthief, when you´re cheating already, be consequent and set the movemnt rate of your char to 120 in shadowkeeper. I bet you´d fly through the game like a blitz ... the only disadvantage could be that you can´t see your char any longer when he´s moving, well, such is life

I fact I don´t think that boots of speed are neccesary since the movement rate was increased considerably compared to BG-1. Additionally unsing the boots will prevent some real- and gametime triggers to work, but since you seem to enjoy the game, play it your way.

[IMG] It appears that Boots of Speed round up the number of attacks/round you get to the nearest whole number.

Ex: If have 2½ attacks/round without the boots, then with them you get 3 attacks/round.

they seem to increase the attack rate in the graphics for they use the animation feature of the haste spell/ oil of speed. In fact they just increase the movement rate. They don´t give any extra attacks. You just seem to fight faster with them.

i do cheat with my movement rate, ragusa. but i like to keep an eye on my character... slow enough to detect any fights, but fast enough to walk when there isnt a fight.

  10. I read somewhere that TBoS are effecting your attax. 'cause the "loosy" programmers did'nt noticed that thing. They just laid them as a haste on the character...
