Well, my thief has survived long enough to get his grubby little mitts on C Fury finally. His group fighting tactic is to hide in shadows and creep close enough to see just one bad guy. Then he heaves his boomerang knife (+2) and runs back to the shadows. The bad guys scramble around a bit looking for me and reform while I run to the other side of the room and throw at whoever I can hit. It's kind of like the final battle in The Three Amigos (but with one guy rather than a village).

Probably some will cry "foul", but this is the exact sort of sniper tactic that would make sense for someone that can hide well but can't swing a sword very effectively against vastly superior forces. The VC (and our own SEALs, etc.) used this kind of tactic well in Vietnam.

I'm kind of digging the throwing knife over short bow because the speed factor is so good and because I don't have to lug around any ammo. Additionally, the throwing knife seems to hit harder and more often for me - I suppose it's using my strength bonus (girdle of hill giant strength). I might trade in the dagger for the Geshen (sp?) bow but will more likely trade it in for firetooth (+3 and some fire damage) ASAP.

In the mean time, the solo thief takes a while to win a big battle, but doesn't have to rest much as the bad guys rarely (so far, anyway) get a shot at him, much less hit him. An archer would probably do much better with this than my thief can, but I'm having fun anyway. Stealth is our buddy.

My only other major plan right now needs to wait on my obtaining some speed-boots. When I get them though, the primary strategy seems to be:

    1. Sprint into the room in stealth mode and backstab the snot out of someone,
    2. Sprint back around a corner and into stealth mode, leading the survivor and/or his friends back into a trap (set before the backstabbing, obviously),
    3. Head back around a corner to set another trap (out of sight of the bad guys) while waiting for the damage from the first trap to run its course,
    4. Sprint back to the bad guys to apply another healthy backstabbing and repeat as necessary.

Right now, I have one ring o' invisibility as a backup in case my re-stealthing lets me down.

Both of my primary plans kind of fall apart though if I'm in a small room without convenient corners (like the first area in the planer prison, for example). If I can't go stealthy against multiple bad guys, my survival rate kind of plummets.
