Sofia Red Army Memorial Gets Superhero Makeover

    Ok, let's start with this - yes, we have a Soviet Army Memorial, and I think most people are ok with keeping it as a memento of the (not-so-)good old days. However, a few days ago it got a bit of an "extreme makeover" by some anonymous artist - who, if caught will be charged with vandalism. On the other hand, I'd say s/he could probably raise a lot more than the fine (5000 BGN, roughly equivalent to 2500 Euro) due to the fame s/he has gained. It's been discussed a fair bit here, but unfortunately foreign media mostly haven't caught onto it.

    Beautiful.

    It reminds me of that story my brother told me about. Some guys in his artillery battalion had painted an M109 howitzer pink over night and parked it on the middle on the parade grounds. Caused a major, well, kerfuffle, but they never got caught. I always wondered why nobody heard them. Tanks don't exactly move quietly.

    Hehe. Not bad. It looked better at a distance than close up though, and that tag on the base was pretty ugly and lame.

    Apparently the municipality was too outraged, because they sent a cleaning team to "restore" the plaque early yesterday morning. Ah well, pity, I liked the "new" look. Now if they'd only be so quick about removing less artful graffiti... you'd think swastikas would merit more outcry, wouldn't you?

    I liked the color version better, even though I had problems recognizing the yellow guy and yellow-blue guy on the left, and the red-and-yellow one to the right (The Mask, Wolverine and... wonder woman, perhaps?))
