I hope someone can offer me some advice.
I'm running DA:O on my laptop, which is getting a bit old now.
It's a 2.4 GHz Toshiba, with an ATI HD 3650 video card.
It just meets the specs, and in the past I could play DA:O with ease.
Nowadays, it's overheating often when I play, so I needed to get a cooler, and even then it sometimes overheats. The overheating issue is a bit mysterious: Now that I have the cooler, I can play the game for hours, no problems. But when I'm distracted and leave the game on for as long as 15 minutes without using it, suddenly it does overheat again. It seems to happen during dialogue, and when paused in combat. I can't figure out how it doesn't overheat when I actively play, but it does when I'm doing something else for a while. Perhaps it's just bad luck.

But my biggest issue is with a combat lag I experience, which gets worse the older my laptop gets... I hope somebody has a tip for me to address this. I already have the graphics settings on the lowest possible, I think.
The combat lag is as follows: It often takes several seconds (almost 10 seconds sometimes!) before damage from attacks is actually taken/dealt out. This makes it extremely frustrating to play, since healing spells are often too late to save a wounded party member.

On the issue of low graphics: Which of the following settings would make it easier on my laptop?
    Anti-Aliasing
    Play in Full-Screen mode
    Vertical Sync
    Frame-Buffer Effects
    Disable Multiple Render Targets
    Disable Aspect-Ratio Correction

Oh, and I have mods installed... I was wondering: One mod said it was incompatible with any other mod that adds NPCs to the party.Does that mean it will CTD as soon as I enter a mod map with a 2nd NPC?

I have experienced the delayed damage effect, and disabling anti-aliasing could significantly improve your game. I wasn't able to get rid of it fully back when I played on my old PC though and it was especially bad during encounters with lots of archers.

Might be time to bite the bullet and get a new laptop pal.

[IMG] My wife's first in line for a new laptop. Mine is 2 years old, so I should still be able to get more out of it;). Since high-graphics games are the only thing that slows down for me, I'll just have to deal with it for now.

Update drivers and windows. Run a defrag and cleansweep application that will free up various leakage of data. From there, reboot the system and try it again. If that does not work, maybe a registry cleaner might help. You may also want to update your bios as well.
