[IMG] The best rogue build in terms of party balance and efficiency has got to be a rogue1-2/wizardX, because of the INT-bonus and the important skills of the rogue. Evasion at rogue level 2 is optional. In this case, there is a lot to be said for a Deep Gnome, that serves as a 2nd caster to your main sorcerer.
As said before, 3ECL level penalty also serves as a bonus to experience for the party. :thumb:And the +4 Dodge and Spell Resistance are ideal on your party scout.:)
A specialized rogue build can also be considered, but it is far less efficient, because pure rogues are quite weak in IWD2. In this case it's all personal preference; some may want a drow for SR and cleric mix-in, others may like the half-orc for better STR and HP, kmonster even goes for the 20% XP penalty, turning the rogue into an XP amplifier (I doubt this is efficient; the rogue will be up to 9 levels behind before a party of 6 even gets 1 spell level further). Whether you go for STR+2-handed or DEX+Small Blades, also depends on your approach and preference.
:confused:Maybe the question "Best race for a rogue?" is not specific enough. But the best race for a rogue mix-in is surely Deep Gnome.

Sure, whatever, but the Finesse option is suboptimal for the reasons listed above. You want to get as many sneak attacks as possible not just one. Of course like I posted before if you don't want a single class Rogue just go for a high AC decoy with uber DEX.

I think that Sanctuary is more reliable for Sneak Attack, because you don't need to rely on enemies failing their save. The Sancuary only lasts 1 round, but so does the Command, and Sanctuary is a guaranteed concealment, unless your casting is disrupted. So 2 Sanctuaries for powerful enemies, cast from a distance, then close in behind them, and the 1 Command as domain spell, to use on weak-willed enemies.

A halfling, of course. No if ands or buts. Halflings rule as rogues. :)

In general, I prefer teiflings...but for IWD2, I think Halflings are the best. A close second are the Drow. Human Male Rogue avatars in the Infinity engine look too silly.

I'd say human, but then again, I'm partial to humans for their extra feat and skill point and free multiclassing and flavor. They are also my favourite race in pretty much any game, so all human party is nothing weird with me. So yeah, human rogue is the way to go for me.

I've always rather enjoyed Humans and Tieflings in some sort of Rogue build.

RPG preference. Race-Bonuses aside, Half-Elf or Human. Halflings are nice too.

Yeah, I guess. I've never really noticed any particular race ridiculously outshine another.

Certainly not the relay ... they always take the baton and sneak away.
