I wouldn't beat up your dad if I were you. You'd probably end up worse off ;) Besides, you can just bum internet use off your friends, I use my mums :p

@8people: stop me if I'm going too far, but since you mentioned it I couldn't help thinking about it... of what disability are you talking about? Excuse me if the question is too personal.

Why don't you try first to learn why he did this and then if possible try to talk him out of his decision.
He may have a pretty good reason for doing this

[IMG] @Aragorn, perhaps one day I'll explain, but for now just check your PMs.

If puch comes to shove. I can be very persuasive ;)

but I recently started saving up. I am thinking of buying a new video card, an external hard drive/disk and perhaps an internet card thing, can't remember what they're called :hmm:

Problem is, I've spent the money on warhammer and friends :wail: I should get it back though. I don't spend money that often.

Foradasthar's post pretty much says it all. Kovalis, let me tell you something, dude - my Dad did some things that really made me angry when I was a teen. I didn't understand why in the world he did them because I only looked from my own perspective - apparently, tunnel vision is a trait that is fully manifested in humans beginning around age 12, anyway. Ten years later, I am so thankful he did what he did, else I'd be horribly irresponsible right now.

Of course, you probably feel like a bunch of old folks are preaching at you, but when the anger subsides, I'd try to see things from his point of view. Whatever the case, be thankful for your pop, be thankful you can still talk to him face to face. I wish I could still talk to mine.

Ditto on pretty much all said above.

On a practical note, try negotiation. I don't know your folks, but chances are if you agree to/not to do certain things (like bring up your grades, etc.) in exchange for getting the internet back up, he'll most likely go for it. This way he's getting you to do what he wants, and you're doing something you should be doing anyway AND get to keep your internet. Everybody wins.

As a teen, my folks hated some of the stuff I did and was interested in (D&D, video games, rhinoplasty, etc.). But I would usually win over if I gave them something they wanted, too. In my case, it was better grades or tedious yardwork. At the time, I thought they were dicks. But looking back, I now have a decent work ethic for which to thank them.

On a personal note, if you're THAT upset about it, you probably spend too much time in front of a computer anyway. So turn the damn thing off and go outside, already! You live in California, for god's sake.

You know what's ironic about this, right? In twenty years or so, Kovalis Darkfire, Jr. is likely going to be on these same boards talking about how HIS dad is such a jerk for cancelling his 5 million GB/sec supranet connection... :D

I would probably agree with everyone else. No, you shouldn't beat him up.
Just stop and think what you'd gain out of this. You wouldn't get the internet back; you'd have a very cross dad; you wouldn't get the internet back; and you wouldn't get the internet back which makes it a pointless was to act.

My I am a teenager and quiet often dis agree with the way my parents do things. But I never even think of beating them up. That would get me no where at all. Talking is the solution. Talking, not fighting (be it verbal or physical), can get you anything.
