[IMG] Shane Doan is the captain for the Canadian team sent to Moscow for the IIHF World Championship.

Shane Doan, a forward for the Phoenix Coyotes, was also accused of making a racial slur against an official of French Canadian decent a couple years ago.

Now NDP Leader Jack Layton and Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe are complaining bitterly that he shouldn't even be on the team.

The NHL Reviewed the incident at the time and concluded that while someone on the ice made the offensive comment, it wasn't Shane Doan. Doan has a history of proudly representing Canada in international competitions. Hockey Canada President, Bob Nichols even defended the decision in front of a committe of all four main parties.

The feeling I got from the radio and TV was that it was ridiculous and that the ploiticians were shameful. What are your thoughts?

I think it is safe to say that most people will consider the politicians to be behaving like idiots.

    a) Doan's conduct was already reviewed and he was found to be innocent
    b) The alleged racial slur isn't signifiant anyway. I am sure most people have said worse things. Don Cherry's remarks about various racial groups have been much worse. Go to a bar and watch any international sporting match and I am sure you will hear far worse comments than Doan was accused of making.
    c) If a bunch of MPs have nothing better to do than worry about who is captain of a hockey team then obviously we could cut costs by eliminating their jobs.

Shane Doan, however, simply scored a hat trick, including the game winner today.

I agree that the Politicians are acting like fools...

Idiot Quebec politicians and Jack Layton trying to seem relevent to something Canadians actually care about. They should just shut up and continue to do what they normally do which is nothing.

They do need their voice heard in Parliament, but they need to make sure they have something valid to say. But then again, this would be in AoLS...
