I just did something like that to make a half-orc fighter/assassin (in the tradition of old AD&D) starting with a half-elf fighter/thief from BG1. I do not think SK can read a BG1 file.

Start a new game in SoA.

    Import your character.

Wait a long time for Imoen to free you, save the game (do not use the auto-save game), then quit.

Open Shadowkeeper and open the game you just saved.

Note the experience points (should be 161,000) and hit points, you'll need them later.

Follow mistyca's instructions (edited by me):

Also set the 'to hit' to 20 (just to be sure -- I don't think you need to though).

    Save the file and quit.

Restart SoA and choose the edited game. Your character will need to level up. Follow the level up as normal and you should have a 1/1 F/Assassin.

Save the game under a new name and quit.

Go back into shadowkeeper and adjust the experience points to 161,000 (or whatever you want it to be). Save and quit.

Go BACK into SoA. You should get another level up indicator. Bingo! You have your fighter/assassin at the level you were before (or level you want).

The only thing left is to use SK once again to adjust your hit points to what you had before. That said, if you give yourself ~25-30 hit points during your second trip to SK it should be close.

Why do you need to go through all the trouble of editing your experience points? Just changing the levels should be sufficient.

IIRC level and experience points are treated as distinct by the engine--they are not tied. So you could be, say, a level 10 character but with only 1XP and the game wouldn't complain. You'd just need a lot of XP to reach the next level. ;)

Conversely if you had 200,000 XP but set your level to 1 then when you loaded your game you'd immediately get the level up button and be able to advance yourself to the appropriate level for 200k XP.

Prine: As long as you know EVERY code to put in for the class special abilities you can do it manually. Most of use don't have such things memorized. You need to give yourself zero xp at first to get the class skills you obtain at first level (the game does this when you load the saved game and level up). Then you need to give yourself the appropriate xp to bring your level up and give the additional class skill you get while leveling up in the game.

I've tried to start the xp for the level I want to be, but end up missing some of the class skills -- it seems to be a two part process.
