I have tried for my cleric/mage to cast the freedom spell from a scroll while sanctuary spell is in effect and keep getting attacked. Is this considered an offensive spell?

Aren't all mage-spells considered attacking from the 'Sanctuary point of view' ?

I think any spell cast on another creature (including other party members) is considered "offensive" by Sanctuary standards. I seem to remember not being able to heal other party members. Never had much use for the spell because of that...

Just double checked the spell description. It says a warded priest "cannot cast spells on other creatures without ending the spell." This includes healing anyone other than the priest himself.

Then the spell has been changed and is not in keeping with D&D, much like the rest of the game.

Sanctuary is meant to shield the caster until he/she performs a hostile action, as defined in 3rd ed. (sorry, I didnt have 2nd on-hand, though it has better descriptions IMO):

"While protected by this spell, the subject cannot attack without breaking the spell buy may use nonattack spells or otherwise act. This allows a warded cleric to heal wounds, for example, or to bless, perform an augury, summon creatures, cast a light spell in the area, and so on."

So could Aerie cast a summoning spell or area effect spell since they are not directly cast onto another creature? I never tried because I got the impression that Sanctuary was only good for casting spells on oneself.

Truly, she should be able to heal as well, and cast non-hostile utility spells, but I have never tried either, as Sanctuary was always 2nd fiddle to Mirror Image.

Go ahead and try it. By D&D rules, it should work.

I agree Amon-Ra, there are some glitches between true D&D rules and rules used in BG2. In P&P, There is no problem to cast non-offensive spells like augury, wizard eye, healing spells... usually divinition and healing spheres are accepted. But, in my interpretation of rules, conjuration spells are not accepted, because they can be indirectly offensive. Well, I guess it could be interpreted from both point of view, Amon-Ra ;).
