if the shia and sunni wants to continue there stupid fight over who was the rightfull heir to muhammed, then fine, let them waste thier lives on killing each other over such. then when the majority dont want war anymore, they can sort it out themself.

We have tried to solve it, by supporting a democratic goverment, as much as i dosn't like The koalitions war in Iraq, the voting didn't seem to be rigid, the majority of iraq is shia, so the goverment is dominated by shia, thats how democracy works.

im sorry if some sunnis dont like it, but really was there any alternative?
Keep a minority sunni goverment, like under saddam? split the country into small nation-states that couldn't support themself economicaly?

as i said previus, they have the alternative of chosing to keep fighting a war based on religius disagreements dating back to the 7 or 8th century if they want to, but somehow i would have thought the majority would prefer to try and live peacefully, without fear of being killed because of your religius conviction.
But honestly, they keep blaming the west for meddleling, fine let them sort it out themself, let them slaughter each other without us interfearing, apperently thats what they want.

as for what happends in france, sadly its not an isolated event, small fractions of muslims all over europe seems to not want to integrate and keeps attacking our institutions and want them changed to suit thier very fanatical religius views.
Sadly i fear this is causing a big rise in racism.

I wouldn't say it's overly stupid given what Saddam has done -- especially because the exeuctioners were Shiite. Heck, imagine the Jews trying to treat a former SS guard with genuine respect after World War II.

It is still, a terrible spectacle that strips the dignity of both the executioners and the executed, but the sentiment and chanting is understandable, although not commendable.

A government allways needs to accomodate to its populance, I thought that was what democracy was all about? France is not going to bend in for radical islam anyway, I would be more worried about the rising support towards far rightist groups. From what I've heard and read about the situation in France it's much more of a social issue than a religious issue anyhow. The French immigration policy is that the people who move there pretty much should leave their past behind and adapt to the French way of life, which would be great if they actually were treated as French by the French once they did that.

To modify Aik's sentiments somewhat, represtative, majority rules democracy is not compatible with Iraq. This is obvious. It was obvious in 2003, it is obvious now; the ethnic and tribal differences run too deep. What is compatible with Iraq is consociational democracy.

Man, I agree. And the proof is in the results: Give people the freedom of choice, and they will decide their own fate, even if it is no freedom at all. That's the great thing about democracy - once it is in the hands of the people, they will decide, not the powers that would be. In this instance, the American administration, which thought that democracy was nothing more than a high-sounding buzz word, discovered it's true power, in somewhat the hard way. As this execution proved, America is losing its grip on the situation in Iraq.

The administration set the powers in motion, now it is getting beyond their control. The top general in Iraq referred to this as a "botched" execution, which shows just how far "democracy" in Iraq has started to flow. It's no wonder the military is throwing up its hands in Iraq and saying there's no longer a whole lot more it can accomplish there, despite what the politicians back home are saying.
