Can we just kill him already? This man does not deserve a "fair and speedy" trial. He deserves a barbaric, torturous death at the hands of those whose brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, sons, and daughters died due to his corrupt regime.

I don't care if he's tortured. In fact, I'd pay money to watch him suffer for what he's done.

I believe this bastard has no rights left. And I don't care what liberals, conservatives, democrats, republicans, foreigners or anyone else has to say. Saddam Hussein deserves to die, and he has earned any torture he receives.

What you suggest is but the first step down the road to becoming the monster we wish to destroy.

Yes, it is. But taking one step doesn't mean you're doomed to continue in that line of steps, now does it?

Actually, it usually does. A democracy doesn't usually become a despotic dictatorship all at once. You erode it one freedom at a time.....We drew a line in the sand when we created our system of government. Taking away anyones right to a fair trial can lead to taking away someone elses. You start by taking the right away from monsters. Than hardened criminals. Then people no one really likes. Then people who don't have anyone to stick up for them. Before you know it everything that you once had is gone. It isn't going to hurt anyone to give Saddam his trial.

Of course it doesn't become a dictatorship overnight. What I'm saying is that simply committing one act at one point in time doesn't necessarily lead to committing more acts of such a nature. Often? Sure. Always? No.

What can I say? "Often" is reason enough for me to be cautious.

It would set a precedent for future trials, Zenastin and excuse governments in that situation. "Everybody knows he was a right bastard." is not exactly something that we can call fair. Simply put if he claims to have been tortured and it is proven false (which I believe it will be, no American could possibly be so stupid as to torture somebody with as much publicity as Saddam) then he will have proven that his word can not be trusted in court, he's a known liar. Shooting himself in the foot is what he is doing.
