You can give that charismatic rogue paladin levels for better saves. Or you can dual with sorcerer. Note that some people already take Hide and Move Silently with wizards.

People are giving very sound suggestions. It comes down to what you want - a more or less vanilla rogue, or perhaps a rogue character, but not necessarily 100% rogue in class.

For more or less vanilla builds, 4 levels of fighter or some levels of ranger, or even 3 levels of paladin in some cases, or maybe barbarian, will help. For a successful rogue with some oomph, go for ranger/rogue multiclass. If solo or HoF, you could even get several beneficial low-level mix-ins of other classes. My brother's rogue, as I probably mentioned in my earlier posts here, had four classes.

So does anyone know whether sneak attack is supposed to work everytime you stand behind someone, or does it only work for the first hit?

Edit: Sorry I found this later

    Sneak Attack
If a rogue can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from his attack, he can strike a vital spot for extra damage. If the Rogue is hidden, the target is incapacitated (asleep, paralyzed, stunned, etc...) or when the rogue flanks the target, the rogue?s attack deals extra damage. The extra damage is +1d6 at 1st level and an additional 1d6 every two levels thereafter. Should the rogue score a critical hit
with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied.

Thus if your opponent is concentrating on someother member of your party, the rouge can get behind or flank him and get the extra damage bonus, without having to hide, for every attack and not just the first.

Thanks, Shrikanth. I'll keep an eye out on my monk1/ranger1/rogueX and see how she goes.
