    I just noticed the scale icon and I have "26 reputation points". Also a rep power of 8. Over 10? Is this a new thing? and what exactly are they? :confused:

    Hey I just noticed on one of my posts my reputation is a gray box and the comment says n/a. What does that mean? I'm guessing what it means is that someone gave the post a rep, and then decided against it and gave it the opposite rep to cancel it. Is that possible?

    I've had a couple of these also. It seems that a poster's "rep power" will always be 0 until their post count reaches 50, even if they've been around for years. So if someone with a rep power of 0 adds to your reputation, it goes up by what you'd expect, 0.

    I've had a slew of them in the last week from the same poster. Given the poster (whom I won't name, but let's just say he's been a hot topic here lately) I assume they are retaliatory neg-reps (he leaves no message). But since this person has a rep power of 0, his reps register with a grey box and it'll say "your reputation for this post is even." You've likely been hit by the same bandit, Snook, as he seems to be spreading it around. Whether they are positive or negative reps is known only to him. I would guess yours are positive just so he could spread enough to be able to neg-rep a few key people in succession.

    I don't believe rep power goes below 0, so I would conjecture that there is no impact to reputation from such a person.

    There are two reputation concepts: reputation power and personal reputation. Personal reputation affects only every individual member. For the purposes of +/- reputation, reputation power is the only thing that matters EXCEPT for the safeguard that reputation hits from people with low personal reputation don't count at all. So generally it's only every individual's reputation power which will determine how much reputation (positive or negative) they can give to another member. If their power drops below 1 (or personal reputation is in the red zone), their reputation hits are essentially misses as they don't register as either positive or negative.

    Just had a good laugh reading this thread :D It reminded me of a ragepost on another forum. I'll paste it and hope profanity filter is on :p

    I agree with the 50 post count restriction of course, could possibly be higher too. While that hits lurkers the hardest, i guess there isn't a better way to measure time spent on the board, reading people's posts. And there must be a meaningful restriction, as a horde of angstful trolls are no doubt eager to prove.

    Tal, do you mean reputation or rep power? You said power. There are lots of folks with rep power below 10. In fact, most people are below 10 as far as I can tell. I would say that getting to a rep power of 10 or above is actually rather hard (or at least, time consuming). Make at least 50 posts (rep power +1), and let your account sit for another 9 years (rep power +9), and you'll get there. Every 1000 posts grants a 1 point bump, and every 100 rep points seems to give another bump.

    This doesn't happen overnight or anything.

    Or maybe when Tal says “drops below 10”, he means that rep power was at some time above 10, but due to a series of neg rep hits, went below 10.
