I stick with a 43 inch. I just don't like the big screens and it has nothing to do with my built in entertainment center that only fits up to 43 inch TVs.

Yea, furniture adjustments are often necessary to fit in bigass screens. :shake:

Visiting these forums is always quite the trip down memory lane. Hope all you old-timers are doing well and I'm gonna get out of here before I get too embarrassed from reading old posts!

I looked at smaller tv but I had told Mom someday I would get her a screen she could see clearly and set it up for her, so.... Later that year I got a great deal on the same brand a year newer but only the one size, again so....

TVs are one of those things where you can never go wrong with a larger screen. My wife (a notorious cheapskate) told me when I got the last tv to find one I liked and then go one size bigger. It was a wise move.

Well, whether or not it's clearer depends on the TV. Interlacing shouldn't make the image more blurry, even though it's interlacing two different frames, since the image should be theoretically moving at a greater frame rate, making it smoother for the viewer. Of course, if your TV doesn't support interlaced signals, as is the case with LCDs and non-ALiS plasma screens (as far as I'm aware), then the image actually gets converted into a flat one dynamically, which can cause blurriness and/or stuttering, especially if the image is deinterlaced poorly.

I've never found any need for a bigger TV. Getting a bigger screen would just force me to move further away, which would require me to tear down the wall I'm leaning on behind me. :p

Kenneth, well said and explained but I have to still disagree. Walk in where a large number of tvs are displayed showing the same thing and I agree you will see what you have described on some. However if the picture changes some models go from very clear to looking like you could walk into the picture. These do show the reason full HD is so popular.

"So popular" is a bit of an overstatement. According to download statistics, the currently preferred format for video files is 720p x264, with SD still trailing behind it as the second most downloaded.

I get the appeal of high resolution video. Hell, 1080p with 60 fps and lossless 7.1 audio is absolutely marvelous with a proper entertainment system. That said, these files are simply too large for something most people ultimately won't care about.

Torrent download statistics? The majority of people won't download above 720p just for the sake of convenience (longer downloads, bigger files to copy/burn, torrents easier to find, etc.), not because they wouldn't prefer full HD. On regular TV, the only real choice is SD or full HD, and I can't see anyone preferring SD when they have a choice, so...

Statistics from where? A lot of places and video shorts don't offer better than 720. Kinda skews the stats! Had to laugh a bit, reading over our posts I'm the one most often defending old standards not the one to argue new ones. Enjoyed the discussion.

Exactly. Given the choice, most people will make a compromise between convenience and quality. That said, people who care enough to download anything above 720p are still in the minority.

Well, although not strictly necessary anymore with the new forum software, we do have a tradition of shutting these babies down and starting new ones, so we'll continue that.
