Woohoo I'm artist-in-residence tomorrow at an elementary school about an hour out of town. I'll be teaching the whole school a lesson in art and have an awesome project in store. I'm not even freaking over the fact I've only had a week to plan for it.

Excuse me! Bored? Hell no - I'm a very entertaining person, they get to miss math class, and my project is cool.

Bored, maybe. But those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Actually it was kindergarten to grade 10 and it went great. I had a lot of the kids come and talk to me at the end of the day. The older ones said I have cool art.

All it took for my art teacher to impress me in elementary school was a quick drawing of a boot on the blackboard. It's easy to appreciate a skilled hand when you have yet to develop any real skills yourself. It gets progressively harder as they grow older though. And gods help you once they finish college.

I don't know Kenneth. I guess it depends on what you are teaching and who you are teaching it to.

I've been having adults express interest in taking classes from me. Today I am going to seriously look into running a class. It's work I could take my son along so I wouldn't have to worry about the hours.

    That be true.
And speaking of drawing: I still have not progressed past Elementary School level.
My only 'Art' is drawing smilies which I sometimes put on the companies internal circulating documents to brighten the receivers day. (or not :D )

True enough. Not everyone grows up to be quite as disillusioned and stoic as myself.

My job for quite some time was teaching graduates fresh out of college how to do some actual work. Everyone thinks they've grabbed God by the balls just because they've made it through a few years of non-trivial education. I was tasked with shattering their dreams and bringing them back to reality where education doesn't amount to anything but a pretty piece of paper.

Seems like that job would be a bit redundant. Isn't it almost everyone's experience after they finished college/university/whatever that what they've just learned would, in the best case, be a moderately relevant basis for their future work or, in most cases, largely irrelevant.

I find it mildly sad that all that math, physics, aerodynamics, mechanics and thermodynamics I studied are mostly useless in my current job.

It's not redundant, it's efficient. The faster they come to the realization, the better it is for everyone involved. Obviously, once they did, it was also my job give them skills that actually are useful, but I've always enjoyed the first part more. :p

I don't think we have that kind of store here but it sounds good. I once made chocolate chip cookies with hot chili pepper flakes in them and they were really tasty.

Oh definitely, we add a little zing to many dishes. Linguini and clams with red chili flakes is awesome.
