Yah, I think it's kind of funny that children seem to think that because their parents love them that they will be happy to carry their burdens for the rest of their life.

It's true that a lot of parents go throught the "empty nest syndrome" but then I think they start to enjoy the "not having to cook for an army" benifit.

-to add to what Blackthorne and Rally said.

Kitrax, I hope you guys all manage to get along!

I assume you will be paying some rent though, right? The $600 saving is just the difference between the rent to your landlord and the rent to your parents, given that you will no longer be taking up a whole house.

Both of the laptop terminals at school are busy right now, but hopefully one of them will leave soon so I can hook up my laptop. :nolike:

And for the record, some of us have perfectly good reasons to still live with their parents. My mother can't handle her medication, drive, or cook, so I'm taking care of her. So long as Kitrax pitches in for his fair share and his parents are willing and able to house him and his sweetie, I say good for them. :p

Are you allowed to take your laptop to school these days? Wow. How the world has changed.

So you would rather Kitrax and fiancee become statistical, financial burdens on the rest of the nation by staying in a place they can't afford with bills they pay on a rotation basis and forcing the rest of the country to pay higher taxes?

Whatever happened to familial love? :skeptic: After having one child in prison, my parents would prefer their kids to live at home than become ex-cons. Besides, some of us 'moochers' live with M&D on an exchange basis, such as Felinoid mentioned. My obligations to my daughter end when either I die or she dies.

Speaking of family, today's my mommy's birthday. HBD, Mom! :*

    Happy winter solstice everybody.

How does Kitrax paying rent to his parents cause everyone else to pay higher taxes?

Yes, though it may be hard to comprehend, I can contain the whole of SP in a device upon my lap. Which means that both Ara and kuemper are sitting on my lap.

I think you have it backwards there Harbourboy. The logic was actually that if he were to NOT live with his parents then that would lead to him not being able to afford a reasonable standard of living and thus hving to rely upon social assistance which would raise the need for taxes.

Personally, my parents were more than happy to help out by allowing me to live at home until I had saved up enough money for a sizable downpayment on my house. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Familial love goes both ways. Sure there will always be room in my house for my sons whenever they want/need it, but there should be something coming back from them commensurate with their ability to provide. I paid my mother nominal rent when I was living at home, but I also helped with grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, and other housework.

Also, you have to look at the need. Living with parents because you're in between jobs or have otherwise fallen onto hard times is very, very different from saving up for a one-day splurge.

I think we all agree that it is OK for him to go and stay with his parents (not that our opinion matters) but some people have been inferring that he is not going to be completely bludging off them, when I am sure he is actually going to be contributing in some form.

It's great that he (and possibly more importantly, his fiancee) actually get on well enough with his parents for this arrangement to be possible.

What I would rather (not that my opinion matters in the least of course) is that they, as adults planning to get married and have a life together, live within their means and not burden anyone else with their finances.

It's all a part of growing up and taking on the responsibilities of an adult. If you do it on your own, you have much more respect and value for what you have.

[IMG] And if anyone wants to take this discussion further, please open a thread about it in AoDA; the theme's general enough that we don't have to put anyone in the spotlight or use up another page of RBP for it.

I'm back! My friend came over and fixed my computer. It seems that it renamed my harddrives, so that it was using the empty one, which means that it wasn't using anything from the old one. Of course, why it rebooted and did that, I do not know... but I'm back, I've missed many posts, so prepare for a torrent of posting by me!!!

    GA-HAHAHA!

Shell and angry in the same sentence?

I can hardly believe it... something *REALLY* dire must have happened if our fair lady lost her temper...
