I haven't been watching the new Dr. Who, but all the same it's just struck me...

When the Daleks said "Exterminate!"... who were they talking to? Does it make any grammatical sense? It can't be any sort of command, except to the other Daleks. Unless there's an unspoken "We..." or something in front.

    Arabwel - huh?

Rhetorical - they were talking to themselves. A bit like when Chevalier say "coffee...must have coffee..."

Ah, I see... like Ara. Only more intelligible.

I suppose they could be reminding themselves of what they were meant to be doing... they can't have had much RAM with the budget they were on. They could barely afford your basic exterminating peripherals... tin foil, LEDs, plungers...

    Stairlifts...

A note for all students: the best way to get work done is to go nocturnal. Ignore all those who speak of the twin evils of "organisation" and "a good night's sleep". Nothing - NOTHING - is as effective as sleep deprivation to make you realise that stuff needs doing, now. Then work 'til you physically drop from exhaustion. In the interim, the healing power of tea will lend you focus enough to complete your tasks. Then, sleep through the day after handing in your coursework. Wash, rinse & repeat until you've finished your degree. Under no circumstances attempt to work during normal hours; your brain will be too active, and find too many different methods of procrastination for any work to actually take place.

Heed this advice, my friends, and you may avoid my perilous situation: staring down the barrel of a 2:2 with your final year project due in tomorrow, and 20 pages left to write...

Or just don't do anything like Physics as a degree subject. Because it's really, really, really difficult. Really.

Thequila? No myself I prefer good old Beer. Nothing can beat a good '' Fin du Monde '' or a '' Maudite '' or even a '' Blanche de Chambly ''

But I don't dislike Tequila either. Anyway I know a recipe for some real good and strong ale. It's call Dragon's Blood

    1) Take Tequila and Jack Daniel (or something similar) in about a 1:1 ration (their should be the same amount of both liquid) Take them in a cauldron.

    2) Add tabasco, only a few drops. 3 should be enough

    3) Heat it up until it's boiling, wait about 2-3 hours

    4) Drink hot.

    It's a marvel!

Magpie - some of us are not sure what a "2:2" is. It sounds good - 2/2 is 100% (Weeee!) but from the context of your message, I get the feeling it is not good?

There are varying degree classifications in Britain (I think this applies for Europe too). Three classes of honours (first, second, third; first being the best) and a pass. Honours grades are further sub-divided into "upper" and "lower". By convention, these are denoted numerically, with 1:2 being a lower first-class honour, for example. 2:2 is, thus, lower second class honours. Whilst this doesn't sound too bad, it should be noted that about 80% of students graduate with 2:1s. Thus they're not picky about shifting people down who are on a boundary.

But then, Einstein (yes, the Einstein) graduated with a third. Which shows what "they" know, doesn't it? :shake:

Apologies for any confusion caused; just trying to share the benefit of wisdom learned the hard way!

Cannot sleep. Too much tea. Shakes started 15 minutes ago... Have reduced caffeine intake in attempt to compensate. Wish me luck, people... :spin:

[edit] Does antone else find that, when pulling an all-nighter, it begins to feel as though the two frontal lobes of your brain are gently separating?

Since you seem like a tea addict - why not switch to Red Bush after 6pm. Its called tea, but is made of various plants and contains NO caffine! If its available in N.Ireland, it should definatly be available in England.

Tea without caffeine? There is such a heretical product made by Typhoo already, anyway.

    Magpie-
I haven't noticed the brain-coming-apart-within-skull thing; mine just seems to slowly sizzle. I get the impression that it's like a PC in the middle of an electrical storm/electromagnetic field, and it begins to shut down for safety reasons - if I carry on it becomes the consistency of overly fried egg. But maybe I just need to push the boundary a bit further :)

Tea is indeed some sort of ambrosia. Have you tried the new Twinings Everyday? Stephen Fry advertised it, and it's actually quite good. Best drunk out of a pint mug :D

(Small lie - it's actually a 3/4 pint mug. But pint sounded better.)

So go onto the road, set up some signal fires and a tent, effectivey blocking the road. Then chain yourself down and go to sleep.

Problem solved. The trucks can't make noise if they can't drive. :D

Or you could invest in some earplugs.

So I had a headache. And slept. Sleep good. Especially if it makes headaches go away.

Nearly got murderd in my sleep, though - the fuzzballs managed to dislodge a dagger from the wall and it almost stabbed me when it fell. (So it is a sheath. But the sheath is sharp, too...)
