    Aye, well said Ofelix.

Shakespeare's got nothing on Racine. And you try telling me none of the Pythons read Candide de Voltaire. ("Hello, I'm a woman with half a buttock. I had to eat it, you see, so I didn't starve. It was damned inconvenient, because I had to ride sidesaddle afterwards. I may as well die, but I can't really be bothered.")

Sorry I missed explaining twelfth, btw. I swear that question wasn't there earlier...

I didn't say the language doesn't have any great authors or playwrights (I happen to have a thing for Montaigne, the French Renaissance thinker). It's just that purely linguistical, I don't really like it. Same story with Spanish. Too frivolous for my liking.

But don't worry, about 90% of the people I know prefer the Romance languages over the Germanic ones...fools. :p

Come on, you must admit that Goethe wrote some absolutely impressive things.

That's right; Goethe cold be very elegant in his writings. And the way Nietzsche used language - ranting, celebrating and deconstructing - was superb. German is a very logical language; you need to know what you're going to say before you say it, really. It's not about tempo. But that doesn't mean it can't be elegant.

Damn; I haven't done any German for 2 years now! This is making me miss it... :p

I usually don't tell the last two to the ladies.

Yay! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie DOESN'T SUCK! I mean, sure, it tells a totally different story than the books - but it's still very drug-trippy :)

Of course, no one here in SP would ever post anything out of contest or that fall in the dreadfull spam category.

I mean it's not like we have a topic whose sole purpose is the allow people to make irrevalent post. Every single post here is of the top quality.

Does anyone here know what "monetary overhang" is? I have an economics exam tomorrow, and I have no idea what is going on, for the most part.

    @ Warrior o. t. World

Oi. This is difficult to explain in a foreign language cause I dont know the proper terminology in English. And its a few semester ago I learned that stuff. Lets give it a shot though:

To give an example of monetary overhang: It is a problem in todays international trade/transfer of goods and capital. The amount of goods traded among nations in year X has increased by, to give a number, 2 %. However, the transfer of capital has grown by 8 % in the same time. Thus up to 6 % of capital transfers were not related to an increase in trade of real goods sold and bought but were sent around the globe for speculative purposes. And the discrepancy between real goods traded and money allocated without a real cause is steadily increasing. The movement of capital doesnt mirror the movement of goods traded – a monetary overhang.

Hopefully this helps a bit. I also hope I got it together correctly…. Dont kill if not.
    :(
