    GRRRRR!!!

Last night, while I was driving, an idiot was tailgating me. His headlights were too strong and were half-blinding me. I never saw coming a hole on the road. When we got home, our front left tire was flat and our rim was damaged. Of course, the shops are closed on sunday here. My girlfriend had to borrow her parents car to go to work, and we're going to have to find a way to go to the garage on monday even though my girlfriend has tons of meetings to go to...

And, it will probably end up costing us over 200$... :flaming::flaming:

Last night was a lot of fun, and I paid for it today.

Apparently alcohol makes you act silly. They should put warnings on the bottles.

In a post no doubt already long-forgotten, I alluded to the existence of kittens in my general social proximity:

Sadly, Emmy was sold this afternoon. :( Keeping her was never really an option since I'm allergic and my gf's house is already stuffed full of cats and can't support anymore. Still, it was a sad moment for me when she was chosen, and subsequently seized, by the buyers. What made it worse is that her mother (named Spot) then started looking for her all around the house, meowing. At least I can take solace in that Emmy is (presumably; hopefully) entering a better life where she will be well fed and loved and reasonably free.

The whole process of kitten-trading felt rather cruel, as if we were dealing with slaves - they were advertised on an online auction site, and then people came to buy them based on their cuteness. I felt slightly like an accomplice in an evil scheme.

[IMG] I was wondering if you were going to update us on this actually :)

It always feels a little harsh when you sell kittens, helped a neighbour do it once. She always advised people to get the kitten they feel a connection with when they handle more than the one that looks cutest. Which actually did change a few peoples minds.

All you can do is hope that they love the cat and look after it properly, if they tried to wrangle the price or didn't ask any questions on the cats it's a shame, but they're either noobs just thinking "KITTEH R CUTE" or the other end of 'cat experts' who have owned cats since before you were born and have had very little human contact since

Well, from what the people were saying, it seemed like they had previous cat experience, so Emmy is probably going into a good life. Still, there's an off chance they might be crazed cat-serial killers or some such.

If you sing up for Amazon Prime, you get free 2-day shipping for one month...and as long as you cancel before the month is over, you don't have to pay the $80 fee. :thumb:

Actually, they point that fact out on the signup page. They're expecting that a large amount of people will forget to cancel and get charged the $80 anyway.
I’ve got a sticky note on my desk that reminds me to cancel it by Dec. 9th. :)

The tobacco industry is once again padding my palm... a moron describes the look of a pack of relatively unknown brand of cigarettes without telling the name, and I tell the name, and the moron introduces himself as representative for whatever piece of trash company makes those, and tells me since I knew the brand he was talking about, I had just earned a $10 gift card, and then says since I did it without scrounging in the rack to find the said cigs, I get an extra $10. So I've got $20 to burn at Chapters Indigo. I don't think SP has an affiliation with the said site, but if that's the case, I just might order myself that Darkthrone album...

My lab coat smells like apples. (aethyl pyruvate)
The scent has been around for the best part of morning, and it's lunch time. I hope they are not serving apple juice in the mess hall. I can't look at apples right now.

The only feeling I get with plums is kind of squishy and sticky. But I get that feeling with other things as well.

[IMG] Ever since I told him that I was about to buy an SSD, a pal of mine keeps telling me that his RAID-0 is soo much better, and cheaper (just like his whatever dual core was soo much better and cheaper than my 9450 quad core). Well, I replied that I had a RAID-0 (that, to his chagrin, was better than his as he found out when he benchmarked it) and I wasn't happy when one of the two drives crashed. On which he replied that that's what I got for buying Seagate whereas he wisely bought Samsung ('better and cheaper!'). As if I care. He then went on that a buddy of his bought a grand new computer and a Corsair SSD, and didn't note any speed increase when installing his OS (which is unsurprising as the drive he chose only excels at sequential writing of large files, which is not what your OS does when it installs). He also demands benchmarks (which I will not give him) and goes on along the lines of 'I believe an SSD is better when I see it' ... 'unproven technology' ... bla bla bla

I accept as a criticism that my purchase was expensive, and perhaps not necessary and primarily grounded in tech enthusiasm (to say that would probably be a pretty accurate observation), but not that my drive choice per se was bad technically. I don't like this negative attitude. Point is, he's a penny pincher, and slightly jealous.

As a result he quite simply tries to spoil my fun, my bragging that is, to feel better about his comp. Well, I spoil his spoiling by dismissing whatever alternatives and objections he brings up as essentially either 'uninformed', 'irrelevant' or 'quaint and obsolete'. In my narrative SSD are progress! :D Oh the fun :D And thinking of that, how will I brag when I finally have my drive :shake: Even if it is utterly crappy, I won't tell him and instead praise it's stellar performance and that, not having an SSD, he just doesn't have an idea of what he is talking about

That said, except for that my-****-is-bigger-than-yours problem he's overall a nice guy. He just can't help it.

Tell him about the silent booting. He has a point with the Samsung's.
