For that to have *just* happened, it would mean that you would have to have a brain to begin with...

    I prefer this:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Fusce ultricies, tellus sit amet semper accumsan, enim dui tincidunt nisl, at bibendum massa erat in nisl. Sed consequat, mi a tempus scelerisque, velit risus pulvinar velit, et sollicitudin lectus dui a orci. Duis quis sem. Ut luctus consequat lacus. Aliquam iaculis. Cras blandit. In placerat, erat vitae consectetuer tincidunt, mi nibh hendrerit orci, sit amet aliquet leo risus sed odio. [...]

I did. Fortunately, it was only a rental, so not a big deal.

Heh, who'd think they'd use adjusted Cicero for something like that...

Why not? They needed filler text to see what a typefont or a page design would looks like, what's better to force the focus of a viewer on the design than using a dead language most people can't read?

Flix: In lorem ipso, no one cares *what* Cicero is saying, just how the text looks (which reflects the late 20th century rather well, imo, but is beside the point). I simply think that it's rather ironic to use the words of one of the finest orators to convey the notion of "forget text, appearance matters".

Am I the only one who is quite sad about Nintendo putting together some of the classics for people to read on their DS?
I always think that there is something wonderfully decedent about sitting with a cup of tea and one of your favourite books.
My thing at the moment is to sit on the little squashy sofa I have in my big bay window with the sun on me while I read one of my favourite books. I don't think that you'd get the same feeling from reading off a computer screen

(Sorry for any typos, Ashley is trying to push a plastic house up my nose!)

Count me in. I tried reading an ebook once. I managed to finish the book, but somehow it wasn't as fun as holding an actual book in my hand and flipping the pages. I don't mind it, and I can see why lots of people would prefer ebooks, but as long as there are real books around I'd rather use them.

Do you think someday people will date the ages in BI (before the Internet) and AI (After the Internet) ? I think that would be awesome!

On the topic of eBooks I must say I prefer them, especially now with the advances made in eBook reader technologies (especially the Kindler -- there's still progress to be made though, the ability to read PDFs files comes to mind, stupid propriety format !). With a device the size of a book, you could store many, many books, as much as the internal hard drive allows. Plus, with an internet connection you could easily access new material and even have daily newspapers. There's also the convenience of having powerful search tools (useful for researcher or students who need quick access to a particular topic inside a book). I can't see why such a device wouldn't have a working browser either, that'd be nice. Imaging cross-referencing an author or a topic on the same device that you read the book on.

In the 5th or 6th AD century (or the 16th or 15th century BI ), the written material in the western world evolved from the papyruss (essentially a single long scroll of text, without any delimitation) to the book as we know it now. I think that the electronic book is simply the next stage in the evolution of writing.
