A transoceanic cable is a communications cable (usually fiber optic) that is laid on the bottom of the ocean that connects distant places to each other... Take a look at the map I linked to...where do you think those cables marked on the map are? They're certainly not floating in mid-air via colorful balloons, no matter how awesome that would be. :p

Well, then I guess you're just screwed. :p

In other news, I just beat my wife's score on Bejeweled on our BB's! It took over two weeks, but I not only beat her score, I crushed it!

This victory feels especially sweet, because for the past week or so, she has been rubbing it in my face. -_-

When has that stopped anyone in RBP? :p

Fenoterol is... nasty, in large doses. Don't overdo it with that thing. Take just enough to keep the mists :p

Oh, I know, been on it for a while now, don't worry. :) When I first started therapy with it it took me a few nights to sort out palpitations and hand tremors - but self adjusting the dosage into little "sips" helped. ;)

ION, I'm to work for fifteen days in a pharmacy this summer. *panics*

So I could use a little math help, because I've forgotten all my trig. :bad:

I'm making a UV exposure box...using LEDs which have a 15° viewing angle, and I need some formula to calculate how big the beam will be at ~3 inches, so I can properly space the LEDs.

Well..that was little help. I suck at math.
    I found S=2(pie)Rh
    S=Surface area, R=Radius, h=height

That's great...just one problem, I only know the viewing angle, and the height. So that formula doesn't help me at all. :bad:

Never mind, I found an old protractor, and drew some lines....screw math...my way works, and I can actually see the end result.

I assume you want to know how big an area the beam covers if it spreads out from a point source (the LED) at a 15° angle.

The tangent to 15° is 0.26794919243112270647255365849413, so at 3" the beam should cover a circle with a diameter of 0.804".

Hope that helps. Otherwise, there's the brute force approach: take a bunch of LEDs and experiment to see how close they need to be! :)

According to my protractor, our answers are just about the same. :D Actually...that sucks, because each LED is $15, and I need them of fill the area of 11x17. :bad:

But how did you get 0.267......413? When I hit TAN 15 on my calculator, I get -.85599.....

And as for experimenting with them, the LEDs in question are high intensity UV LEDs (350nm)...I don't know about you, but I'd rather *not* look at them when they're on, presuming that you'd actually be able to see the light coming off them. :p

and no, you probably will not see it, i think it only goes down to about 400 nm

I think your calculator uses radians, not degrees.

Hmm, I see your point... even if I can't see UV. :heh:
