    Apropos running ... I did a 5,7km run on a company sport event in Bonn today (for a noble cause - sick children), and I made it in about 30 minutes, even though except for my daily cycling 10 mile back home from work, I don't do sports :)

    I am relatively proud of myself, and I feel motivated to take up regular jogging again. Now I only need to start that as long as the enthusiasm lasts :D

    In other news, I got free samples of microchips and μC's in the mail today. Now if I only knew how to program them. :bad:

    Sort of saved a girl from death this morning. Silly girl tried to force her way into the train when the doors were almost done closing and no one saw her being stuck but me. Pulled the emergency brake and an emergency button to force the door open. That button didn't work though, it actually prevented the door from being opened :thumb:

    P.S. We need an ironic version of this smilie, or would that make it lose its irony?

    @Kitrax,
    Don't you need a special development board and software for that?

    Bah, she was probably just pretty and he wanted to get her phone number. As always.

    Funny: To mask . in Regex (i.e. \.) you have to search for \. and replace it with \. :borg:

    Yep. I have one...but I don't know how to use it. The manual that came with it is thicker than the bible. I know basic C++ code/syntax, but I don't know how to code C++ that runs on a PIC16. :hmm:

    Normally you need a cross-compiler to compile to the specific target you are using. I don't know about PIC16, but Cypress provides an entire IDE for their SOC products.

    Usually the best you can do is C, and assembly is good when your chip only has a few K of memory on it.

    Cooking the Sunday dinner today and it's all going wrong.
    The beef joint was rubbish and managed to absorb all the gravy in the pot and still shrink to half its size. The potatoes over boiled so it looks like we're getting roast mash and Rob is experimenting with the yorkshire pud mix. Might be going to MacDonalds yet!

    Yay...ish, I just returned from a wine testing with a good friend on the Moselle, drinking ourselves through various Rieslings.

    The way to the place went like a charm. I planned it; it took 2½ hours - we would go to Koblenz by train, switch trains and go to Ürzig, then cycle along the Moselle to Berkastel-Kues. Gorgeous landscape, and we had luck with the weather.

    The wine testing was nice.

    The way back was an epic fail. The way back with the bike to Urzig went well, and our inevitable intoxication largely vanished on the ten kilometres along the Moselle. We arrived on time and according to plan. Then came the choice of trains. I wanted to go back the way we came. My buddy had other ideas and wanted to go via Trier all through the Eifel back to Cologne, for the sole reason that way it would stop in his home town. I thought it a silly idea, especially considering the narrow time window for changing trains, but lost at rock-paper-scissors. The train to Trier went for about 1 hour. We inevitably missed the train he had counted on us getting and had to wait for 1¾ hours. The train then took 3¼ hours. Do the math.

    Lesson learned: If it feels silly, that's likely because it probably is - don't do it :rolleyes: Keep your plans simple. Have safety margins.

    During our forced stay in Trier I had the opportunity to have a look at three cultural world heritage sites, and however impressive and important they are, I can't say it compensated me for the time lost, largely because I have to work tomorrow, and because it was utterly unnecessary and avoidable in the first place. Meh. We're still friends though, but he owes me.
