I agree. Having to kill the hobgoblins without khalid and jaheira is pretty tough. Especially if you've chosen to play a mage or something.

I agree with Takara, things like that aren't cheese. People seem to want to make these games way too hard, condemning anything that makes the game easier at all.

If the people who made the game hadn't intended you to save and load a lot, why make a Quicksave feature?

I don't disagree with exploiting any of the game's functions unless like Takara said they're due to a bug. That's not just cheesy, it's completely pointless.

No, sir! Beregost is the first spot south of the place where you first meet Elminster. You have to deal with hobgoblins and bandits only if you go straight to Nashkel, but when you are in Beregost, you have time to ponder, and possibly to recruit some people. It's definetely easier to sleep in Beregost than in Freindly Arm.

As for hiring Xzar and Montaron, that's what I usually do, and Khalid and Jaheira usually fight them before we are in the mines, but they are evil... why would you hire evil people, if you are "good" and want to stick to the story.

The mage at Friendly Arm isn't that difficult, just don't fight him on the stairs, lure him of it, he'll walk towards you to talk before attacking. That way, the guards will help you (3 of them if you're lucky) and he'll never cast a spell.

And no, this isn't cheating, the no fighting rule in the friendly arm is clearly stated in the game, so it's only natural the guards fight him to.

Just go grab that potion that's up in Windrops (the fat guy who's got it up for elven arses) place. It makes you immune to fear, which is the first spell he casts. Just walk up and let him cast it harmlessly at you, then run around the corner and lure him into your bud(s), who'll whomp him.
