*runs off screaming* No!! Too much IPA!

Heh, sorry. Had a few nightmares when I was doing my phonetics course.

    Okay, so, Laiwethel...

[Lie-we-th-el], with the main stress on "Lai".

kuemper doesn't mean anything...now that is very bad! No wonder I have low self-esteem! I mentioned elsewhere that I stole the name from a rival school.

It looks as though I'm pronouncing people's nicks correctly, with the exception of olimikrig.

Guess any version of 8 could work though

As long as it has a little p!

    Mine is El-with-rawl.

Elwithrawl basically, except the correct spelling is minus the 'w'.

    Irenicus is I-ren-i-cus.

    @ 8people:
I always assumed (because of your tagline) that it was said "Infinite people". Oh well, just me over-complicating as usual.

Incidentally, the pronunciation of my nickname is not as straightforward as it may first appear. Let me explain:

The basis of the phonetics is a rare Westcountry dialect called Tubs' hill. Only known to local people, the spelling is completely disconnected from the traditional pronunciation. Thus, "The Magpie" is actually pronounced utterly differently, and carries many hidden meanings. I'll break down the phrase, for simplicity.

"The" is actually said "Awl-m" (like "orl-m", but softer).

"Mag" is said "Ay-TEE" (like IT). The "m" is operative, and thus silent. The "ag" represents "ite" normally, but the "m" changes this. Finally, the "pie" is very simply pronounced "wun" (or "ou-un", for Francophones). If you're having trouble, just say it quickly out loud. It'll soon come.

Please feel free to refer to me by the traditional, English equivalent of these phonetics. :p

As stated in the old thread:

    Uytuun=uytoon

    u as in understand
    y as in yellow
    t as in trash
    oo as in platoon
    n as in nOOb

    Mystery solved.

Oh it's because your browser isn't set with IPA or Unicode or whatever the bloddy thing is to show IPA character.
