Hmmm...I should have specified that one.
    A .25 bathroom is just a sink/vanity
    A .5 bathroom has a sink and a toilet
I'm not sure if there's such thing as a .75 bathroom... :hmm:

I've been looking at the floor plans of my dream house, and to make it truely perfect, I would move a wall or two, tear out the bathroom between the den and the great room, and then turn the den in to a dedicated home theater room. :thumb: :rolling:

I want a bungalow, nothing special, just as long as I don't have to deal with stairs when I roll in drunk :p ...I'd also want it to be in some little village, or the edge of somewhere preferably near a forest/woodland, cos I can't stand citys, I can just about cope with the town I'm in if I don't have to go shopping in the town centre.

So 1 bathroom has a bath in it? And 1.5 would have a bath and a sink and toilet? What about a shower? Would that take it up to 2 bathrooms?

You are making this waaaay more difficult than it really is. :skeptic:

A "full bath" has a sink, toilet, tub/shower.
A "half bath" as a toilet and a sink.
A "quarter bath" only has a sink.

Sometimes the "master bath" will have more than one sink, a toilet, a tub, *and* a separate shower, however, that doesn't make it a 1.5 bath...it's still just a "full bath".

Take my house for example. There's a master bathroom in my parent's room that has a sink, a toilet, a tub, and a separate shower; there's a hallway bathroom that has a sink, a toilet, and a tub/shower combo; and then there's the tiny bathroom next to the garage that only has a sink and a toilet. Therefore, our house has 2.5 bathrooms.

    Get it now? :thumb: :rolling:

I'm for the magical number 2: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2-car garage, and 2 stories, so I have room enough for myself and any guests who want to stay over.

And a cellar is always useful, of course...

And just between 1000-2000 square feet, thank you - my mother doesn't live here, which means I have to clean it myself! ;)

I just got an estimate on a 8,846 sq. ft. Georgian two story with a three car garage, 8 bedrooms (including 3 with living rooms attached), 11 full baths, 2 grand staircases, and even an elevator.

That thing isn't nice enough to be my dream home, though. I want a 33,000 square foot house with six-car garage, built-in swimming pool, racquetball and tennis courts, sitting on 10,000 acres of prime New England real-estate.

If the link works, this would do me nicely. Not too bothered by the house itself, but the estate would be rather nice.

    House:

Ground Floor - Very Large Reception Hall with twin-flight staircase and monster fire-place, Kitchen, Dining Room, Drawing Room, Double-height balconied Library, Cloakroom, Conservatory, covered walkways to seperate stable-style garage block and conservatory-enclosed swiming pool.

First Floor - 4 Double Bedrooms, all en-suite, two offices. Second part of library.

    Roof-Space - Observatory.

I have a couple of reasons actually.

    1) I don't like repeatedly opening/closing the garage door. For one thing it makes a fair bit of noise and given that I normally leave for work at 6:30 am I wouldn't want to disturb my neighbours.

    2) Driving in Canadian winters will typically result in the car being covered in salty slush. If you leave it in a garage you will get a floor covered in slush which will then melt leaving first a large puddle and then a floor crusted in dirt and salt.

Then maybe your dream house should have quiet garage doors and floors that are as easy to hose off as the driveway :)

Or a car-port/underground car park without doors, but protection from the elements. Slightly sloped floors to a drain (pumped if required) solves the water problem.

6:30am isn't early by the way.

My dream house is either a building resembling a small medieval castle (not Fairy tale like, more medieval. Google an image of "Burg Eltz" to see what type I am thinking of), with at least one tower and some turrets. The tower has a balcony around its circumference at the top. It has a pointy roof. There's a larger balcony built into one side of the actual building, and protected by walls on 2 1/2 sides. The half wall is supplied by a small tower-like structure in which a winding staircase is located. The balcony roof will be covered by some kind of vine plants. Also, I will have stained glass in several windows, which will be designed by me (I already have two designs. Mostly the designs will feature dragons and crows, ravens and magpies.). The roof will have a roof rider (you know, the figure that some houses have at the edge of the roof edge. It's usually a rooster) in the shape of a dragon (there's a local craftsman who makes all kinds of those roof riders, and the dragon is one of them. Other examples include a sleepwalker, a cat, and a purple hippo.). The whole building will be located in a geographically interesting area with some actual large hills in the forest. And the house will have a driveway, though no garage, probably. It will be located in an elevated spot.

Should I not be able to get anyone to build in castle style, I'll settle for Victorian style. But it still should meet some if not all the requirements of my castle.
