Wow, I didn't realize that there were sooooo many stat whores!

But, WHY? You get a ring for CH early, and can buy a Str girdle early.... and you can min/max stats anyway.... I don't get it... there are gloves for dex!

Really, guys, you don't need great stats. It's just a crutch.

Is there anyone that has actually beaten the game - AS DESIGNED? no stat rigging, no mods, no cheats, no looking at walkthroughs.... just go blindly through it..... and wouldn't that be more fun? :p

Why 18 con on a mage. I have a couple of reasons.
1: Since I´m always soloing these days every little helps.
    2: 18 Con is better than 5 Cha :)
3: I like the way it looks on the Record page.

First time I played it I didn´t have internet so then I didn´t have any mods, hadn´t heard about CLUAConsole and had following stats on my Cavalier:

    Str: 18/87
    Dex: 18
    Con: 18
    Int: 3 (IIRC)
    Wis: 13
    Cha: 17

    Rolled maybe 5 times.
The urge for a great roll grew stronger and stronger for every time I played. Now I cant play with a lousy roll, even if I just create a char to see how he is at lv 40 using SetCurrentXP. I know, I´m sick :D

So yeah, I´ve finished the game without even alittle cheeze or bug using.
    Only once though :D

I can't believe that the majority of people are willing to roll for up to half and hour or more! I have never done that. Another choice in the poll would be nice, like 5-15 minutes. For me, I'll roll for about 10 minutes, and then settle. I don't think I've ever got a character with more than about 90 total points, maybe a little higher if I play through BGI and use all the tomes. It really doesn't matter in the long run anyway. I usually play a multi-classed mage/cleric, and I usually play through BGI first. So I have a 21 in Wisdom, 19 in Constitution and Dexterity. All of my other stats are between 9-13, and I've had no problems.

You need stats in the beginning - and by this I mean your low level characters in BGI, where a high dexterity and high constitution may mean the difference between life and death. After the first few levels, and certainly by the time you start BGII, starting stats are not nearly as important.

Take a cleric for example. A level 1 cleric with an 18 in wisdom gets +2 first level spells. So you get three instead of one, and you've tripled your usefulness. It doesn't make too much difference though when that cleric is level 20. Do you really need 12 first level cleric spells instead of 10? Probably not. A high dexterity for a low level thief or mage may make the difference of being hit, which will likely save their life. A high consititution increases your starting hitpoints by 20%-50%, depending on the class you are playing. All of these are much more important to low level characters than mid or high level characters.

It's roleplaying - you don't have to build an uber character to have fun playing the game.

    @ spoogemonkey

The first few times I played totally mod & cheat free. To be honest, I never knew they were possible. I always viewed all games the way I viewed old-school Nintendo games. The game is the game is the game. Never even occured to me. I like the mods that add things to the game, and I can't stand super characters. They kill the game for me. I do use shadowkeeper, but only to change to colors and avatars of my characters. I think once I added the kit abilities to a multiclass, but that's about it. It's a very fine line, though. Change too much and you kill the fun. So my changes are almost exclusively aesthetic.

    @ Aldeth

I think I was wrong earlier, and am like you. About 10 minutes or so does it for me. It just SEEMS like I click for hours because I often create a full party for the game.
