It's to-mah-to for me, if we talk about potatoes, ever since I've seen The two towers I call them taters, love the sound of that :)

    Po-TAY-toe and to-MAY-toe, thank you....
Though I do pronounce aunt as AUnt (stressing the U, not ant.) And either= AYther neither= nAYther, you get the picture.

I saw this coming a mile away after the Z poll. I wonder what will be next :hmm:

"I say po-tay-to, you say..." actually, I couldn't care less about how you pronounce it. As long as I know what you want to say, it's all good. :D

Here, it's "patatas" and "kamatis".

But seriously, it doesn't matter to me much, but I like the way Pippin say "to-ma-tos" in LOTR:FOTR.

Assuming then, that you didn't see the fact that i bought this up IN the posts for the Z poll and someone was kind enough to give the exact pronounciation of both words.

Well actually I did see it. The main reason I started this poll was because I'd never heard anyone pronounce potato po-tah-to and I was curious to find out if anyone actually did. So far it looks like the answer's no.

...and then there's the whole phenomenon of American children saying ba-NAH-nah because they're watching so much of The Wiggles!

My teacher in English, who had the highest/best mark possible for spoken english on an English school, teached me toe-MAH-toes and puh-TAY-toes.
For me it's still Tomaten en Aardappelen (Right Far?)

    /te'ma:teu/
    /pe'teiteu/

The first and the last 'e' in both is a 'schwa' (short unstressed 'e').

    in American /te'meiteu/ is acceptable

@Dragon's Jewel: you appear to mix Britsh patterns with American ones. Well, I've even heard Brits pronounce a full 'r' before consonants and Americans not do so...
