I voted the first option. I think there's nothing wrong, if it fits your character, or what your character would want another party memeber to do. I woudln't call it important, though. I usually steal only if I'm desperately short of gold.

I steal all the time, after all my character is a thief and what does thief do? well the commit thef... Anyway except the cheesy Steal-sell-steal tactic I don't consider it cheating. You might have guess but thieves are my favourite class (Single dual or multi).

I voted 'yes, with all parties'. My bard picks pockets and steals all of the time. For me its a question of bardic honor not to pay for my items or anything. Thus my hiding places are crammed to the bilges with potions, weapons and munition. The only ones to see cash from me are Ribald & the inns (after grabbing around a bit).

Huh? Stealing implies you got away with it without anyone noticing. How could your reputation go down if nobody knew you did something wrong?

Anyway, I don't steal because I find it too much of a hassle. It's not as though you're ever short of gold and if I stole things there would be no point me lugging around all those magical items that I'm going to sell because I'm not going to use them anyway...

Stealing is bad anyway. You're destroying someones method of income generation. You naughty naughty boy!

True, but your reputation also goes down if you murder someone in the middle of nowhere and no one sees you doing it.

Well that's easily understood. The city is run by cowled wizards and has a rather large religious aspect to it. Take note that murder investigations in this world often involve clerics and wizards calling back the soul of the murdered to inform them who was their murderer. If the spawn of Bhaal murdered someone I'm certain it would have a rather interesting effect upon the soul of the murdered, possibly making it easier for them to be called back for questioning or being able to give a definiate answer.

I guess the game assumes your misdeeds warrented an investigation.

Yes, but I'm not just talking about killing people in Athkatla. I mean anywhere in SOA that you kill an innocent person, your reputation suffers a drop. If you kill a peasant in the middle of nowhere with no peasants and the body is never found, you'd *still* lose reputation points.

Looks like you've found an aspect of BG that needs to be modded. Go on, git! Make an assassin mod. :)

But I think it's only a method to discourage mindless blood bath by the programmer. This also confirm that a computer can't never replace a true DM.
