Sounds like a great idea. The ads don't bother me but it will be good to know that I will be helping support this great site. Keep up the excellent work.

All I've got to do now is find a job so I can afford this :) .

[IMG] 1 American dollar equals roughly 1.65 pounds.

    5 dollars = 8.25 Pounds

    Ahm

    Sorry, but it goes the other direction -> if 1 $ ~ 1.65 £, then 1 $ ~ 0.6 £.

    5 $ then would be 3 £.

    One £ ~ 2 1/8 CHF, that would be ~6.75 CHF.

Tal, do you think there will be enough avatars for all the subcribers? Or will you be adding more with the update? :rolling:

I think there are still over 200 free avatars and portraits. And I can always add more, if needed.

Normally I don't pay to subscribe on the internet. Tried it once and was sorry. But i enjoy this Forum as much as the games. I don't mind the pop-ups and once in a while take a look at them. You are losing $50. a month and I don't want to lose you. I would not want my name sold to anyone but you would not do that. You only need 12 to 60 people to subscribe. At least right now. Count me in.

Of course not. No information from the database of these boards or from the optional subscription would ever be sold or given out to anyone.

Is this up and working yet (or in the plans for soon)?

Not to be a pest, but for some reasons the pop-up ads have gotten worse for me. I get them every time I reload this page, just now I got 4 of them, one from Gator.

Not your fault Tal, I'm not complaining. I'm just looking forward to this feature.

[IMG] No problem... btw, if you're having the popups displayed more often than twice every few hours, you have a cookie problem... In IE, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Privacy, and put the slider all the way down to Accept All Cookies, and hit Apply and OK. This should fix it.

Or switch to Opera / Mozilla whatever. :)

No seriously, I voted for 2€ (about the same thing as 2$ anyway) because to me that seems like a figure that is completely acceptable by every member. 20€ per year is something I'd not even notice the lack of, while 30-40€, even if mailed separately, feels like a great deal. I don't know why, that's just the way I perceive things.

While I am very certain I would put in even 40€ yearly, that feels like a sum that certainly requires some amount of thinking and stressing. No offense meant, of course, but even though I do appreciate SP for what it is, I don't consider myself one bit responsible over wether these boards will continue to survive or not. I *care* wether it does that, I just don't see myself acting as the one deciding factor in this. So any monetary contribution I make is made only because I happen to feel I've little better use for the money, that's all. I say again, no offense meant, that's just how my mind works. Point being that a fee too high might mean that those who could've otherwise have payed for an entire year, might not even pay for a month (at least to me a month or two of subscription is not worth the trouble, it's either the whole year, or nothing).

Sorry for the novel, this is just one of those days where I can't rationalize my thoughts into a more sophisticated form so all this mumbo jumbo needs to be said instead. Still, my point is (and sorry if you already said this but I failed to read inbetween the sentences) that you should make different degrees of subscriptions. The highest level (5€ per month for example) would mean complete removal of all ads and include a portrait, description, etc, while a lower level (such as 2€) would only include portraits, or removal of some (/all if nothing else were added) ads, or something else suchlike, with the added mention of "Yearly Subscriber" to work as an honour -badge we all know these people here are ever so fond of. :)

It's a lot of extra work, and the system needn't be so complex. But I think the idea got across. At least, I believe many more will subscribe if they're allowed noticeable advantages even for paying merely a small price. I believe being able to regulate your "level" of yearly subscription would prove to be more feasible to people than the monthly fee.

And then to the question, you said that those who already had portraits and description / signature texts etc get to keep them. But for how long? Indeterminately? This is not something I'm worried over since I'm about to play a part in this new system financially anyway (unless the prices turn up too high of course :) ), but it had me wondering anyway.
