    Actually the assault weapons ban expired, and it was not renewed by the republican congress. You can buy assault weapons again.

    drew - sorry but it is no easier to buy an assault weapon now than it has been since '68.

    what you are thinking about is the omnibus crime bill . part of this bill was designed to stop the importation and manufacture of what they called "assault weapons" but were in fact not.
    we are talking about firearms that are mechanically and functionally identical to the ones made at the turn of the 20th century.
    you pull the trigger 1 time and 1 bullet is fired. thats it.

    having 3 or more of the following :
    pistolgrip
    detachable magazine
    muzzle brake(mistakenly called a flash suppressor)
    bayonet lug
    a folding stock
    doesn't make a gun an assault weapon

    trying to judge something by how it looks and not by how it functions is :nuts:
