    Speaking of which... :yot:
    Rodent Revenge!

@TGS: Whenever I hear Pat Robertson shoot off his mouth - which is entirely alien to any interpretation of God's will that *I* understand - I comfort myself by envisioning his Judgement Day. It goes something like this:

St. Peter pulls Robertson aside and he proceeds to get all smug, figuring that he's getting some special privileges in heaven. However, he's taken instead for an audience with God, who proceeds to rip Robertson a new one for gross misinterpretations of the Bible and infinite hubris in daring to speak "for" God and thus leading so many innocent people astray. What did Robertson think was meant by "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain," anyhow?

But of course, that's just *my* version of the afterlife...

    1) Pat Robertson has used his success as a TV Evangelist to make himself rich.

    2) Based on things he or someone close to him has said imo he doesn't follow the commandment to "love thy neighbor"

I don't think there is anything wrong with his followers except that they are gullable.

I do not wish bodily harm to him but I think that it is sad that he is held up as a 'man of God' and therefore many will use him as example of why not to believe in God.

According to Ha'aretz, Israel has suspended contact with Pat Robertson over these remarks! Cool!

Hopefully they will eventually suspend contact with the other wacko Christian fundy groups who support Eretz Israel only because they think it will nudge along Judgment Day...

And yes TGS I agree that Christian fundies like everyone else have an inalienable write to their own opinions. But it seems that the Robertson fundies want to force their opinions on others, whether personally through pushing legislation, or politically through lobbying public policy. And that's where Robertson and his ilk deserve all the scorn that can be heaped on them...

Robertson and many of his followers have made it their life's work to vilify and trash the reputation of others, many of whose only "sins" are holding contrary views to theirs, especially regarding politics.

Have you considered that Robertson, if examined by a competent psychiatrist, might well be certifiable? If he didn't have such a huge audience, he'd be laughable, but unfortunately, millions (and, even more regrettably, million$) hang on his words. He has passed far beyond the bounds where any sort of discussion is possible into realms of megalomania, or total cynicism. Prophets believe, with humility, that God speaks through them, but Robertson seems to believe he's speaking as God. Kind of him to let us know what He thinks.

Indeed. I've started irregularly watching the 700 Club, because it, to be blunt, is every bit as funny as, say, Family Guy--but not for the same reasons.

I am astonished that anyone can watch that show and not conclude that he's a nutjob (or deeply cynical).

Nakia, that is exactly the one concern I have. Those who abuse the doctrine threaten it's credibility to those that would likely resist to begin with.

This guy should stick wo what he knows. Obviously this excludes religion and politics...

It sounds like he is sticking with what he knows... conning lots of money out of lots of people.

I don't think it's particularly what he says that threatens the credibility of religion in general. It is the fact that there are so many "believers" that are taken in by such obvious twaddle. With so many people - to whom our attention is only drawn due to their belief in God, seemingly incapable of rational thought, deductive reasoning, or even a little common sense, it's easy (although admittedly wrong) to assume that all are such.

This dude is a lot fun though. But really, these "Christian zionists", as I think they are called, are a crazy bunch. Since they first appeared in the XIX century, they have been creating all kinds of mess in the world.
It is true he intended on building a Christian Heritage Center, and it is also true he was denied after this remark. I have a full article about it, but unfortunately I don't have the link, so I will post only a small part of it:

However, he apologised and now israel is reconsidering the project. Another small part from a different article:

He's not a very good business man, that's for sure, so if he's just in this for the money he needs to rethink his strategy.

A few years back he had arranged a deal with the Bank of Scotland to issue a 700 Club credit card, but after returning from his trip to Scotland he called it "a dark and godless nation." Scotland nixed the deal.
