Do we have a definitive answer yet on whether Paladin and Ranger divine spells are cast at "class level -4" or "class level/2"?

It seems as though the game treats some spells the first way, and other spells the second. Maybe that's the case, and it wasn't implemented consistently. Anyone know for sure?

I always thought their spells are cast at class level, as if cast from a cleric/druid of the same level.
How did you get your strange ideas ?

[IMG] since paladins and rangers start spellcasting at class level 4, it would be "class level -3" to determine the casting level (and "class level -1" for bards). from what i've experienced of the game and its spellcasting mechanics, it would be hard for the designers to code certain spells differently. And i don't understand why they'd do this. I think you have 2nd edition in mind, IWD2 is 3rd edition. Am i missing something?

Their spell pool is rather pathetic anyway, so it's not like it matters.

They're definitely NOT cast at class level. (I don't know why you say it's a strange idea???) Take DUHM for the paladin for example - a 12 level paladin only receives +2 to stats.

I didn't realize this topic would be so controversial! (I happen to like high level paladins and rangers - especially with Light of Selune installed.)

[IMG] Ah, so I was missing something... i didn't know that about DUHM. If the designers powered down the few spells these classes have going for them, then rangers and paladins really are a poor substitute for druids and clerics... even weaker than i thought:(
