[IMG] Just had to vent here.

I'm having sinus surgery next Monday. Right now all my teeth hurt, I have chronic headaches and a swollen face.

They will be drilling out and re-working my septum. I have polyps and other unknown growths in my maxial (sp?) sinuses ... those will be coming out.

In short, I'm in pain ... I honestly can't wait until I get the surgery done.

Be very careful Mat. I have a coworker who's wife had that kind of work done, and had to have it done a couple more times. After the first one, the next surgeon took a look at what the last had done and couldn't believe what a mess was made. Too much was removed; various landmarks destroyed, and it made it much more difficult for the procedure to be done again.

[IMG] Good luck - I hope the pain passes shortly, or at least you get used to it so it is bearable!

Good word BTA. Fortunatly my brother is a surgeon and used to work with the E-E-N-T doc who is doing the procedure on me ... other folk around town heap praise on him as well.

The biggest issue is that due to multiple nose-breaking I have a deviated septum and a bone spur that closes off my sinuses from draining normally. If he only fixes that, I'll be in much better shape.

Hopefully, it will be worth it and you'll breathe better and feel better. Maybe it will cure that snoring problem (you do snore, don't you?) :D

[IMG] Good luck Mat, I'll be waiting to convert you to Satan's church when you return.

BTW: Why did you break your nose repeatedly?

    Yeah man good luck!

I'm in the same boat. Must be a Chicago thang :D . Anyway let me know how it goes and how you feel afterwards. I've been thinking of doing the same.

My sinuses have been hell the last few months. I really never had too much of a problem until I had surgery for broken jaw back in June 2003. The surgeon stuck various tubes up my nose so I could breath during surgery. He said the tubes aggravated my sinuses. He must be right because ever since they've been driving me nuts.

I've had similar surgery three times over the last 10 years (repetition required due to an underlying medical condition, not surgical screwups), the most recent being February 2003. You will feel drastically better once the healing process has progressed to the point where you're allowed to blow your nose. ;)

I'm sure you'll be fine, but good luck anyway. :)

    [IMG] Shura asked
    It wasn't intentional, believe me!

First time was from a 4th grade bully. I had just taken off my glasses to fight him and he was waiting with a sucker punch. I stood there looking at him and everyone was cringing by the loud crack and the blood everywhere. He kinda got pale and said maybe fighting wasn't a good idea. I shrugged and walked home with blood everywhere. Broken nose #1 and a minor concussion.

Second time was in football, sometimes when those helmets pop off it isn't funny.

Third time was when I was working on an older lady's deck as a volunteer project. One of the adults working on the roof let a 6 foot long 4x4 slips. I was lying on the ground hammering a joint in the deck. The thing came down end first and hammered me in the nose.

There is another one in there, but I can't remember. Must be dame braimage.

Oh, and DMC ... I don't snore. In fact, I’ve always taken pride in the fact that I don't because both my parents do. Unfortunately my breathing sounds like a freight train. This should help!

And Chevy … I want to jump back in, but those posts are so stinking long! I don’t have enough “boring conference calls” (aka posting time) to get through them all! I need more time and coffee.

Good luck, Mat. You will feel much better once the ordeal is over.

    @ Mat

I too am a member of the repeated broken nose club, for surprisingly similar reasons. Never broken any other bones.

Break 1: Hit in the face by a pop-fly at baseball camp when the sun was in my eyes.

Break 2: Hit a rock while rollerblading, smacked face-first into the curb. Haven't rollerbladed since, come to think of it.

Break 3: Fist fight in the 8th grade. What sucked is that since my previous 2 breaks left my nose pretty fragile, and it never really healed right, when the kid hit me straight on, my optic nerve was hit and I couldn't see for about 10 seconds. Scary. Suffice to say, I lost that one.

Break 4: Testing for my Brown Belt. Full contact sparring, no helmets. This was surprisingly the least painful break of them all.

It's a miracle I have such lovely teeth, really.

Mat, you should consider asking them to surgically implant a face protector in order to prevent further injuries. :p

    Good luck anyway. :)

Gee, you must attract stuff to your nose. Got a big one? ya know gravity force and all :p
Really i cant understand how you break your noses so plentiful (this goes for you too DR). *shrugs*

Hope you'll be normal (hmm.. with all this brain-damage can you be? :o ) after the operation.
