    Well, he would have paid someone else.

    but then, if this were his daughter, he would be doing precisely the reverse.

    He would be locking her in her room after school and patrolling the property with a shotgun to ward off potential suitors.

    I agree with Proteus - there is a definitely a double standard when it comes to male and female sexuality, and losing one's virginity.

    It's not just hicks/farmers who used to take their sons to visit prostitutes. This was pretty much common pratice in catholic countries before the hippie era, women were really expected to remain virgins until marriage(if they got pregnant they'd be cast out of their families) it had little to do with your socioeconomical status.

    There was no other way for young men to get their rocks off before marriage, I don't think it was insane.

    The father is polish and his father undoubtedly did the same thing for him, it was tradition, one that just isn't needed any more.

    I think the sexual double standard shows we still have some difficulties accepting female sexuality, especially when it's our daughters'.
