Under most laws in general only the police may search you and they have to have good reasons that they also have to share with you.

The problem with security guys suffering from Small Penis Complex is that they can forbid you to enter private property if they so desire so long as they act on behalf of the owner. Of course, if it's a theatre, pub, airport... whatever like that, generally a business by nature intended for wide public, then you may sue them at will. They only most likely have more cash to feed lawyers with and you still can't force them to let you in.

Of course it's still illegal. They maintain the shabby illusion of legality by making it either-or choice (ie you can always give up and go away), but they actually have no right to search anyone to begin with. As a male I don't really mind that so long as no one even asks me to remove anything and no one puts hands in my pockets and the guard remembers he's at work and he's not an almighty cop from comics who *is* the law.

Some of them actually overact. They probably watched too many American films in their youth. They fancy seeing themselves as tough badasses, almost cops, and they show their imaginated power through more inspired and dedicated searching. The last time they played something like that on me was in October, when we were having some law faculty dancing in a club with higher aspirations that didn't really fit them. So, as I was initially inebriated and somewhat displeased, I asked the badass security guy (he looked like a gangster, which he probably was) 'Excuse me, could this not be done by a woman?'. He replied that he would leave that without comment and I actually had to remind him that he was a security guard and it was not his place to make comments on what the guests say in the first place.

The only good thing was that even in that club no one searched women, they at worst had them open their bags. Good. That would be too much for my limited patience for boors and fools.

I think it's a great idea. If it stops terrorists even once, then its worth it. The only downside to having that job would be needing to look everyone over. Everyone. Even those that could be considered unattractive, or overweight.
