I agree, Taza. Enough levels as Palemaster, or Elemental Savant (with the PRC) makes a Wizard immune to crits. That should end any worry about Devastating Critical, even on a Longbow.

The Pale Master immunity to crits I understand (true). And they deserver it, because taking 10 levels of Pale Master is.... well the crit immunity is bascially the only decent thing they do get.

Unless you want to go a full 30 levels in it so you can summon a demi-lich

Agreed! I've never seen that before and would be interested to see a wizard go mano-a-mano with a fighter and walk away.

Khemsa, BoW bans Time Stop (otherwise there'd be ten mages running around with Time Stop all the time, and the server would never get around to anything) and limits IGMS to a maximum to ten missiles/target. And I know of fighter builds that can tear apart fully buffed wizards (without Time Stop, of course, which is utterly overpowered - PnP Time Stop doesn't allow you to take offensive actions) easily.

ArtEchoke, the PM's AC bonus and partial spellcasting do help some as well. Being Immune to Crits isin't all they are good that, it's just the one of the only reasons there are so many Paladin/Bard/Pale Masters in BoW. Anyway, Pale Masters may be immune to critcal hits, but a high enough AB coupled with Improved Knockdown or sneak attack damage (for now) will take them down.

But if something is immune to Crits, they're immune to sneak attack too, aren't they?

    Bovine Knight,

NWN implements Time Stop as it was in 3.0 PnP. WotC came to realize it was too powerful and toned it down in 3.5, but Bio did implement it properly at the time (amazingly).

Gnarff, Pale Masters are (as of yet) still vulnerable to critical hits. When patch 1.66 comes out, they will no longer be targets of sneak attacks.
