Christopher doesn't have to do it, Saul Zaentz is the head of Tolkien Estates and he gets to sell the rights for the book (he sold the rights for LotR and Hobbit).

From what I can find he has nothing to do with the Tolkien estate. He only had rights to LotR and The Hobbit that he got back in the 70's. The executors of the Tolkien estate are Christopher Tolkien, Baillie Tolkien, and Michael Tolkien.

Ah, you're right there, my mistake - Saul Zaentz is the head of Tolkien Enterprises, I seem to have mixed those two companies. But nevertheless, I think there's a good chance that he'll buy the movie rights for "Children of Hurin" as well.

Judging by what I've read I don't see it happening until after Christopher Tolkien is gone. Having read about how he felt about the lotr movies (how he felt, not how the rumors would have us believe) being made I doubt that Saul Zaentz would get the rights if they were sold.

I liked it, but then I like anything Tolkien. In terms of detail in narrative, it occupies a middle ground between the Silmarillion and the LotR. It definitely has his moments. And the ending, unlike the LotR, cannot be thought of as anything other than tragic.

Ooh that's a goodie, tragic endings are good, but now that I know it will be tragic it won't be near as enjoyable...
