Hint time: Live action show. Originally aired in 15 minute episodic chunks as part of a well-known anthology of live-action + animated shows before getting it's own half-hour on Saturday mornings.

    @HB

Nope! Harry and the hendersons was a sitcom based on a movie starring John Lithgow and had nothing to do with crimefighting action.

This show was originally part of the Kroft Supershow and(of course) the brainchild of Sid and Marty Krofft(re:Land of the Lost, Way Out Space Nuts, Electro Woman and Dyna-Girl etc.). Each episode(of the regular series) opened with a voice-over narrative about how a (baby?)boy looses his family in some tragic accident(plane crash?) and is found and raised by Bigfoot.
The show takes place as the "boy" is now a young adult/teenager who wears a primitive looking tunic and speaks fluent modern english and yet Bigfoot can only manage a single word of english(which happens to be the anme of one of the title characters adn apparently his battle cry).

Together these two fight crime as...(show title)?

This sounds utterly crazed. I can't say it ever made it as far as Blighty, though - if it was ever on telly over here it'd be bloody difficult to ignore anything that surreal.

Someone please put us out of our misery...

    Never heard of it.

OK then, every single episode of this show ended exactly the same way, with the hero not settling down and instead keeping on movin' on.

That's pretty wide open. I'll hazard a guess at Quantum Leap.

Ooh, thought this might be easier, but I guess it was a bit vague. My choice of words was quite specific. Maybe if I am even more specific and say that these words describe the hero's actions at the end of each show:

"Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep movin' on"

That could be any show created by the bros. Lupo(The Incredible Hulk, Werewolf, Raven, The A-Team(except for the fact that A-TEam had four heroes instead of the usual one) or The Master), so I have no idea.

Runequester – it’s none of those. The end of Incredible Hulk was pretty similar but with one crucial difference: Nobody ever really wanted the Hulk to stay (he cost too much in replacement shirts) but everyone always wanted the hero of this show to stay.

Hmm, I thought this one would have gone more quickly, but I guess they're all easy when you know the answer.

OK, more info: in this show, the hero would show up in a new place and help someone. Like the Hulk, someone would always try and catch him as well, but he always escaped. At the end, the person he helped would beg him to stay with them but he would walk off down the road, turn and look one more time, then carry on walking. "Maybe tomorrow, I'll wanna settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep movin' on". Someone would somehow always suggest that it was for the best that he carried on so he could help other people.

I just figured the answer by doing a Google search. So I will not cheat and guess. I just wanted to say that I still never heard of that show. Was this maybe a local regional show? I will be surprized if anyone remembers it without cheating. PS: You are showing your age ;)

Edit: Ah, I see Beren got it below. The IMDB lists this as a Canadian show. Was it ever on US TV?

Since a googler confirmed that I was correct, I'll go ahead.

This show had a plot line of James Earl Jones searching for his wayward daughter.

Yes - you are right Beren. The Littlest Hobo was about a German Shepherd dog who wandered from town to town helping people but never staying. And it can't have been a local show because it was on in New Zealand for years. Magpie - I thought that theme song would have given it away.

I don't know any TV shows with James Earl Jones so I'll have to pass on this one.
