[IMG] I've finished the game 3 times now but I still have some leftover questions about certain people... like Morte, Grace, Lothar, and Dhall. I can never tell whether I have the whole story with them. (Or at least, as much of the story as it's possible to get.)

First, Morte: I got him to confess that I was the one who pried him off the Pillar. You get a memory flashback, and he gets a stat boost. At this point it seems that you know everything Morte has to tell. But then way down the road in the Maze of Reflections, you talk to the Practical Incarnation and he tells you that Morte "feigned ignorance" once he was freed. The only dialogue option I got for a response was "What was his game? What more did he have to hide?" but if you say this the PI just tells you "Let the skull have his lies, they are of no importance to us."

This makes me think there is something more Morte hasn't told me. I've heard other people make the same complaint about him at the end of the game.

And what about Grace? If you try to read her diary it says "Well, I didn't really want to read this.... not yet, anyway." What the hell is that "not yet" business all about? I thought if I could romance Grace successfully she'd let me read her diary or at least tell me her real history, but I had no luck. How did she really escape from the baatezu, or is Vrischika right, that she works for them still?

Then there's Dhall. Xachariah tells you that Dhall is githzerai, which I find an interesting twist. Does he have any connection to Dak'kon? Why does he save you from cremation? He says he wants you to search for the True Death on your own terms, but I wonder about this.

Finally, I don't understand what interest Lothar had in me. Grimscalp the dead anarchist tells me that Lothar has been watching me for a long time, but I never found out why.

Lothar seems to tie in with Morte, too. When you come to retrieve Morte from the kidnapping, Lothar says he does not need to bargain for something that is already his. If you say that Morte was never anybody's possession to begin with, Lothar remarks that my ignorance astounds him. Does Lothar know something that I don't? Could it be that he really does own Morte? After all, he is an animated skull -- standard AD&D rules would suggest that he had to be animated by some wizard or priest.

I might just be reading too deeply between the lines, and slipping into Torment paranoia...

The things you ask are mysterious indeed except one.

    Lothar.

If you were a skull collector, imagine how many secrets and things would tell a skull of a creature that lived many different incarnations.
