    The killer is referred to as being a troll but he looks like a big burly dude with poor hygiene.

    My original hint is kind of a dead give away so I will keep it in reserve for now.

    Edit: O.K. time to post the dead give away clue. The movie was an adaptation of an Old English poem. The name of the poem is part of the film's title.
