I never had any problems with Kensai Charnames in the early game. In fact, I found playing a kensai easier than a sword/shield berserker at low levels. Shadows are chunked before they even hit the PC. As for orc arrows? Just have either Korgan or Minsc as a tank which the monsters will zero in on while the kensai steps in and dices the opposition with impunity.

I'm not saying that the kensai is the best melee class in BG2 (that title belongs to the paladins of uber cheese with cheeseomyr +6) but they're an awesome fighter kit, one that I would pick over the others anyday if I was playing a straight-leveled fighter.

But then again, I'm just an avid fighter-fan. Berserker, Wizard Slayer, Vanilla Fighter, Kensai. Love 'em all.
