Had spider spawn in a contingency once, just because it was the only higher level spell my solo mage still had memorized and I rarely use contingencies and used a scroll. This saved me from a power word: reload when stunned by enemy mages who were very supprised to be ripped to shreds by the two spawned swordspider :)

Why not split the effects of the spell sequencer and spell trip between spell casters? I load Aerie with area effects and Nalia with spell removers and anti-mage spells. Whatever the opposition, one of them will be able to handle the situation.
Area effects with no friendly damage eg. Chain Lightning were suggested to me in a similar thread a while back. I have had good results with this. My PC is also protected against poison and resists most fire damage. With his Boots of Speed, he can get in and hit enemy spell casters whilst they are recovering from the initial magic assault. If you get the timing correct, Nalia can strip away all the protections raised by contingencies - Protection from Magic Weapons is a nice one to remove - just as my PC gets in with the Flail of Ages. A wirlwind attack, probably with Slow added, often prevents a mid-level mage from getting off any more attacks unless a contingency kicks in.
For Minor sequencers I use Magic Missile but sometimes give Web to Nalia as my Paladin PC has free action and can mop up masses of trapped low-lives. Magic Missile and Melf's Acid Arrow is a good combination against lower level mages and against missile troops. It can even stop a fighter if one gets past Minsc who acts as a blocker.

From my experience (and my style of play), once I start hitting a mage, he's as good as dead, usually within 2 or 3 rounds, so extra damage over 7 rounds isn't really helpful. For this reason the only use I've ever found for Melf's is to kill trolls (I know, it's a shame)

Melf's Acid Arrows are better on Clerics, just b/c they usually have more HP and you get more out of your spell.

Great thread indeed. I must confess I hate micromanaging but this sounds worth a real try. Usually I put some defensive spell most of the time Stoneskin, Fireshield or Chaos Shield, next time I'll try more daring combinations.
A wild mage using Nahal's Reckless Dweomer in a sequencer or contingency, if the spell doesn't misfire, can be great!

When soloing I like to load three Mord's Swords in a Chain Contingency -- instant meat shield.

[IMG] Contingency: Dispel Magic when disabled is a decent idea.

well this is not a good idea when using project image. I had this contingency once and after casting PI the contingency kicked in and the image was gone :(
