Actually the US NAVY will let people with asthma in as long as they can run 1.5 miles. Just look at me.

    2.4

I'll die if I try to run half that. I don't know if I've ever run half a mile in my life. Well, maybe a couple of times. A quarter of a mile gives me the taste of blood in my throat if I try running at full speed, like catching the bus or something.

2.4 kilometres? Bah, that's easy. I can do that, and I sit at the computer 80 hours per week.

I believe there is a certain time limit as well but I don't know what that is.

Heck, even I have been able to run 2.4km on time. Is it not that distance which is called Cooper's test?
Even now I think I would be able to jog it slowly, very slowly.

I had to run 3 km in 13 minutes - couldn't make it; ran 1000 m in 3:40 instead. 'T was a close call though, barely beat the clock by 5 seconds!

Well, 13 minutes 15 seconds for 2.4 km I should be able to do walking. But if I tried to run that, I would be dead much before 2.4 km and much ahead of 13 minutes.

The green beret in Finland required that among 4 other things, you should be able to run 2,8 km in 12 minutes (yeah I know, for a green beret that is a joke). Anyway I got 2840 m. That was the best cooper I've ever done in my life and there's no way I could get there now. Not good, considering how many people I know could pretty much make it up to 3 km. But oh well, I got it when I needed it.

I was an anti-armor infantry / military police in the Finnish army starting January 2001, ending October 2001. And I'm glad all that is behind me. Sure I know Finnish army isn't really a big deal at all compared to some of the ones found in the rest of the world. Sure I was constantly amused by that place myself as well as I was there. But let's just say I don't enjoy my life when I'm being screwed from every which way by the people I should be protecting, lying in pools of cold water, running hours in a row, being hungry and tired all the time and being forced to stand still for no real reason for hours at a time. Especially the lack of sleep, that really got to me.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, some people prefer to do mountain climbing and sleep in cold tents alone during the night. I don't. I just like to sit inside my warm little house, fiddling with my computer and going outside only when needed or when I want to do it myself. And that's coming out of someone who's lived in a damn forest hacking wood for years of is life. ;)

Words from the wise Foradashtar! The three months of basic training I got was more than enough to make me figure out that being "tough" and "cool" and the like just wasnt worth it.

The other seven months of my military service was spent in mindnumbing guard duty but at least I did not have to freeze my balls off or go for days without sleep. Not to mention that the officers in the guard was a lot more normal and not screaming morons who had seen too many American war movies.
