Are we really going to hold something she did in high school against her, especially something as trivial as this? Let's find out if she skipped class and participated in underage drinking as well.

If you'll watch the clip in context (or, better yet, try to catch the whole episode) you'll notice that she only brought up the fact that she dabbled in witchcraft in order to lend credibility to her argument about the evils of Halloween. What I assume most of us are holding against her is not that she "dabbled in witchcraft", but that she actually appears to believe that this stuff is a real and existential threat to society.

    KJ,
and before you dismiss that, there are people on the religious right who indeed do firmly believe in witchcraft.

    Weird stuff.

Hold it against her? I couldn't care less if she did the nasty on a satanic altar (which I guess is the implied by "picnic" or "date"). I'm a live and let live kind of person (a true liberal, I guess). I just think it is incredibly funny that the same people who are putting the "witch" chick up for Senate are the same people who are all worried about Obama being a "secret" Muslim. You guys are a hoot!

    Interesting news:

This aspect of it does not suprise me in the least. Everything Sarah does is about Sarah - That's not what's interesting. But it tells me a lot about Sarah's plans for 2012.

For a non-USAian, could you elaborate on this a bit? I thought it was fairly common knowledge she was planning to aim high (and fall hard).

RotKU - There have been two camps of political pundits on the issue of Sarah in 2012: The first, mostly from her supporters, is that she quit her job as governor to do exactly that, run for prez. For them there has been little doubt. The second camp of pundits, which I've heard a lot from over the last month, have been saying that Sarah knows she can't win, at least in 2012, so she is instead playing the role as "kingmaker," (I've heard this term over and over recently) that she would build-up her own power within the party, and nationally, to postion herself for the future. Just Google "Sarah Palin" and "Kingmaker."

But it's really a numbers game:

    http://theweek.com/article/index/205108/sarah-palins-rumored-2012-run-a-timeline

That's why a lot of liberals would just love to see Sarah run, mostly because she would run flat-over well-qualified Republicans and then lose to Obama, or possibily Obama/Hillary:

    http://content.usatoday.com/communi...0/10/obamas-veep----biden-now-clinton-later/1

But getting back to the email, it is an indicator, at least to me, of how strongly Sarah is trying to position herself for 2012 with the Tea Party crowd. I mean, just how many people in this world even care if Joe Miller says, "I don't know," if Sarah is qualified to be president or not? The Palins' reaction indicates just how serious they are.

I could certainly see a Biden-Clinton switch in 2012. Let's face it, Obama isn't going to be challenged in the primaries for the 2012 election. Clinton will turn 63 later this month, which means 2016 is probably her last gasp shot at the presidency. Remember all the age questions concerning McCain, who was 72 when he ran in 2008? I cannot imagine a presidential bid from Hillary after 2016.

As for a 2012 Palin run, the one obvious thing she has going for her is there isn't a terribly impressive list of Republican presidential hopefuls out there. If it isn't Palin, it's probably going to be one of the 2008 primary losers who run. The mere fact that they lost the 2008 primary suggests they aren't fantastically popular among the Republican base, considering they all lost to McCain, who ran as a moderate (not that he actually was when you looked at his platform, but he was fairly moderate during his Senate career). So if not Palin, who? Mitt Romney? Ron Paul? Mike Huckabee? Of the three, I would guess Huckabee would pose the greatest challenge to Palin. He did exceedingly well in the Bible Belt states in his 2008 presidential run.
