Morgoth is absolutely correct about the evils of defrag.

Defrag windows partition while you have both linux and windows on the same HDD, say bye to your linux partition and your partition table.
(This might be only when you have resized the windows partition to make room for linux...)

And while compatibility with linux is decent, and if everything goes well (big if there!), ease of use is on the same level as windows. It doesn't beat windows in either, though.

Linux is far superior from windows first of all for the level of control one has over the various processes that are running.
Secondly the latest distributions are very easy even for people that are used to windows (most of the tuning can take place through GUI).
Of course there are compatability issues and ease of use issues.
But for the first one has a vast community, which actively participates (the benefit of open source) in solving these problems.
For the latter well if you have been using Windows and nothing else then it is a natural thing. If not then i don't think one can say that this is true. In fact i find Linux much easier to use for various applications than in Windows.
Security is another big plus for Linux (allthough a basic and starter user may be a sitting duck for a hacker but in Windows even an advanced user is having trouble with all these security holes).
Linux is a very powerfull OS for work (after all that is why it was mainly built) but a very good and educational OS for people who don't want to be just users ;)
