Is a life a right or privilege? Am I born by random chance or was I destined to be alive.

[IMG] Well it is a right to be drunk and a privilege to have a cold beer. That is about as close we can get to that million dollars question. :1eye:

It all depends on your religious stand point (always a tougch subject) but as a pagan i firmly believe that you were not only destined to live but have lived before and will return yet again

/me perdicts that this well be a deep forum.

It all depends on how one sees it.

Privilege is some thing given to you. So if your happen to belive in a higher force then that force gives the privilege of life to you.

If life is a right then it is YOURS. You dont have to worship a higher being. You can do what ever you like and it doesnt matter because thats how you wanted your life to be.

Being born random is a fact. Please parden my bluntness of sex for a minute. The female makes one egg a month. The man, to many sperm to count. But it's only the strongest sperm that gets to the egg. Fact: 1/3 of sperm are dissformed. Even once the sperm is inside the egg it's still random of what traits you come up with.

Destined to be alive? Well I dont belive in destiny stuff. It's just a term that someone made up in the old days I think so that people would follow him in to battle or that their so called destiny was to die in battle.

[EDIT] Three people posted whild I wrote this.

It is different regarding where you live.

It's right if you don't have to fear from walking alone in darkest places at midnight.

It's privilege if you are afraid to make those night walks alone - because there can be a monster/maniac who will kill you just for sports.

I beleive life is a gift....the greatest gift ever given and the two worst things you can do is take that gift from someone else....or waste your own.

"To put meaning in ones life may end in maddness but life without meaning is a torture of restlessness and vague desire."

-A poet said it I can't remember his name....i wrote something similar lol

[IMG] Agreed, Cirian. Another writer observed:
"There is no greater bitterness than to realise, at the end of your life, that you haven't lived"
Right or priveledge, it's your life. Make the most of it.

[IMG] No it is a downright coincedince that everyone here is the way we are. Mixing of parents genes(aliens in my case) and enviromental facters make up who we are. From our upbringing, social life and everything else that happens in the world can effect our lives. Even the name of our best friend or a gust of wind can change our lives completly. Its a privelage.

Edit: or curse in my case:grin:

What if we're not really awake? What If we all are in a comma right now? Think about it, you wouldn't know that you were in a comma. It's kinda freaky isn't it?

What if life is like this:
Your born:You die:You are reborn:You die again. It becomes a really big long circle. So you never "die" just pass on to a new body. But why, how, and why dont you remember anything of the past life? I dont know. If I did though I would be telling people left and right.

Slith believes: Life is a priviledge. There may be no point to it, but it IS a priviledge given by God. The act of being born may be a right, or random, but life itself is a priviledge.

  15. LI think that life is something what is completely yours. I dont believe in heaven or hell anyway. But i do believe in former lives.

I guess we'll find out when we die ...

    Meaning that we either:

1)Won't - cos there is no afterlife
2)Forget - We'll be brainwashed blah blah blah
3)We'll be told - by the greater beings or equivilent beings to us up there in the stars ... duh! Its so simple! ;) :D :) :heh:

Yup, it's a privilage, and we should treat it as such, by not abusing the right, and by appreciating that it can be taken away from us at any moment.

But then, life is only a mortal shell which our soul inhabits for a short time, so there's bigger things in store for us. I think it's like a training period for the big stuff. We rarely get it straight the first time through, so we are brought back many times, to lead many lives, and yes, that's a privilege too.

I think I like the idea of being reborn more than going to heaven or hell. Either place sounds unreal. Although the Earth may be imperfect, it is still my comfortable home and I hope it never changes. Everything from smelling a flower or tripping over a rock, that is what is real to me.

I feel awefull....I said something about wasting your life but I forgot to say what Henry David Thoreau....well it was something along these lines.....I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life,to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn from what it had to teach, and not, when I had come to die, discover that I had not lived.

I'm probably a little off but I tried.

I have a hard time believing in fate and destiny, it seems that I have resigned myself to view the world as a bunch of chemicals dancing a merry dance. I hope there is a mastermind behind it all but even if there is I doubt that it would care about such a tiny place as earth.
For me it is all about chance, randomness and some real funky atoms.
