    Adding wild mage to a fighter-mage sounds good on paper (casting lvl9 & hla spells from a lvl1 slot) but wouldn't the f/m suffer in early game from a low mage level and get very unhelpful surges?

    They would suffer from a few more. But they are generally worth it. though occassionally frustrating. You would have to remember to SK in the three Wild Mage spells. The first chaos shield spell is only like level 2 or 3 so that would mitigate some of the problems. You'd also have to remember to add in the extra spell slot for each level I believe.

    You don't need to add extra spell slots, set your XP to 0 and level to 0 also, adjust HP and THAC0 accordingly, console XP to level up, and all special bonuses of kit will take place. I recently made Keto a Skald with this method, and it worked wodners.
