I have to admit that this strategy wasn't my idea and I haven't tried it either, just read about it (wasn't it in the JUPP?). You're welcome to try!

    @ Maertyn

Jukka later said that if you gate in something to kill the store clerk you still get people turning against you. If you did the dirty deed last before leaving Targos, however, would Oswald care? If he does'nt, then wipe out the Galloway staff if your of a mind to. I do not know if Oswald cares or not. Anyone care to test it?

Can that actually be tested? With me the game stopped as soon as I killed that Galloway woman because she was an important character. Does the game understand that she isn't that important anymore once chapter 1 is over?

I've heard that there's no way of taking that assistant down without getting the whole town attacking you. Yes, that'd be including Oswald, so your game is just as good as over since you need to speak to him to advance to chapter 2. Gating in a demon/elemental didn't work, and you'll get attacked even if the spell you cast doesn't do a single point of damage but causes a saving throw, such as Grease.

However, the good ol' faithful Otiluke's Resilient Sphere has one side effect that can be utilized. It allows the character in the sphere to be pickpocketed, and even if you fail, you won't be noticed until the sphere times out.

So, what you COULD do, is to cast ORS on the assistant (and probably on Deirdre and the second assistant as well just to be sure) and pickpocket her until you finally score that critical success roll. Then, run fast as you can to Oswald and flee to Chapter 2 before the ORS times out.

IMHO, it's just about as time-consuming as doing a bit of pickpocket-reload exercises.

There is a way, actually. Although it's a bit of a cheap/dirty/cowardly/illegal/taking advantage of the game tactic ;) But it seems to get the job done :) And you don't need Otiluke's Resilient Sphere or Pickpocketing skills or anything like that...

All you need is a simple melee character who can hit Jemeliah (the guy who has the Young Ned's Knucky).

The aim is to kill him without alarming anyone.

    1. Bring your melee fighter right next to him.

    2. Force-attack him. AS SOON AS your character takes a swing at the assistant, regardless of whether he hits or misses (most preferably miss because, for some reason, this trick usually failed when the assistant gets hit and turns hostile), PAUSE the game.

    3. While paused, simply click to him as if you want to talk to him. Un-pause. Talk whatever you want. After the conversation ends, hopefully he wouldn't turn hostile. Again PAUSE the game.

    4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for perhaps two more times.

If you did this right for a couple of times, you can now actually force-attack him and just sit back and watch as your character hacks him away to death. And NOBODY will attack you.

Basically, what I just said is almost similar to the "fake talk" strategy (which I'm sure you all know when playing BG2) where you click on a non-hostile character as if you want to talk to him but instead, you proceed to whack him and then pretend to talk to him again before he turns hostile but hit him instead and so on.. But if you try this on the assistant, he immediately turns hostile. It doesn't work.

That is why you actually need to talk to him just so you can make him forget about the fact that you tried to kill him :D :D

Never tried fake-talk, and never will either. That's the biggest clump of cheese I've ever seen.. and boy, I've seen a lot.

But I suppose that'd be the easiest way to do it, IF you can live with that amount of cheese and ABSOLUTELY want that amulet. But wouldn't it be even easier to use Dalekeeper?

Then under that logic, reloading is an EVEN BIGGER cheese since it gives you an unlimited amount of tries to beat a formidable opponent (and not vice-versa). But guess what? Everybody does it! :p

"But wouldn't it be even easier to use Dalekeeper?"

    But that's BLATANT cheating!
Dalekeeper, which is a very nice program, is generally meant for doing things which are not possible to do in the game (like giving your character insane stats, and so on).

In that case, why not just simply enable the cheat mode and ctrlaltdelete:createitem(luck amulet name)? Wouldn't that be even more easier? :D

By the way, I forgot to add one more thing.

You have written an excellent character guide. :)

I dunno.. I can live with insane stats, starting out as level 30 characters with all the best equipment for the sake of having 'fun' while blasting away through the game in record time.. since you're still playing the game, albeit a much easier variant.

But utilizing a loophole like that makes me feel like I don't even want to play anymore. As a matter of fact, I restarted BG2 after using steal-sell loophole to get more money than I was supposed to.

I do have my limits when it comes to cheese, you know. :p

    Khemsa,

Your problem with the twins final fight was something a friend had too. I think it is just a lame scripting bug where Orrick fails to teleport in at the right time and end the game, rather than a hopeless fault with the slaves etc.
