Joia's Flamedance ring is found (at least in my game) on a hobgoblin in the northern part of Friendly Arm. From what I can, tell it has no function beyond a normal flamedance ring, which is to sell it. Anybody ever stumbled upon this ring as well and/or know if it has a purpose to the game? I'm playing the 6 CD version of baldur's gate with TotSC installed no Tutu.

It is part of a quest. Just a little north from the main gate to the Inn's courtyard, there's a door. Enter it and you'll reach Joia's home. She says she's been robbed by some hobgoblins and asks you to recover her ring. That's it.

Might seem useless to start with, but returning it raises your reputation, which is extremely useful later in the game getting more expensive items.

Though if you kill the girl, you may hope for some XP instead.

You get 400 XP for completing the quest -- far more than you get for killing her.

I refuse to do that quest, the rep increase is a bit too cheap.
I know there's worse, like fetching Firebead's book in Beregost.
