Considering this is primarily a lefty crowd I'm curious as to what everyone's thoughts were. As the resident conservative here I am clearly in the Romney camp, but these were my thoughts on the vice presidential debate.

Biden said some good things and clearly performed better than I thought he was capable of.

Ryan still won the debate. The talking heads desperately want to give it to Biden because he was close and it will cheer them up after the Obama debacle previously. However, from what I've seen the polling seems to favor Ryan.

I believe Joe can't have it both ways with the intelligence community. On one hand he says that Ryan is crazy and sanctions are working on Iran and they are no where near a nuclear weapon and then on the other hand he was completely contradicting the sworn testimony on Libya. As an aside the murder of our Libyan ambassador is starting to look really bad for the administration as the coverup is always worse than the crime.

However, the most damning thing was Biden came across as rude, obnoxious, and just didn't look Presidential and for someone who is one step from being the President I just don't think that will sit well with Independents and undecided voters.

Funny, you talk to Democrats, and they think Biden did great -- was assertive, said strong things, yadda, yadda. You talk to Republicans and they think he did OK at best -- was condescending to Ryan (too many "my friend" shots) talked out of both sides of his mouth, etc.

As an independent and pretty centrist, I thought that they both did reasonably well. I thought Biden was more assertive than I expected and I thought Ryan had some interesting things to say. Quite frankly, I thought the moderator won. She was better than both of them.

In a debate, I don't like it when participants interrupt the others. It's low class. I didn't see the debate, but it sounds like Biden was doing a lot of interrupting. Maybe Ryan was too, I don't know.

The thing is, modern folk seem to like that scrappy, ignoring the other fellow, go for the throat style. I'm not a fan -- I like to keep things civil.

They seemed to me like 2 kids arguing at recess, really. I didn't feel happy to have either of them in office based on their debate performance. I agree that the moderator made the strongest showing.

    Lefties?

If the rest of the world could vote, there will never again be a republican president. I voted a few weeks ago for VVD, our right wing liberal party which is on par with the democrats. Your whole duo-cratic system is one step over to the right.

I saw a clip of the debate. Ryan is dangerous. In the clip the winner is Biden with a nose-length.

    Socialism is not communism.

Not sure how Ryan could say bipartisanship with a straight face, considering how far the GOP has moved to the right.

While I typically comment on these threads, I unfortunately cannot in this particular instance. While I try and make a point to watch these, I'd be lying if I claimed to be watching anything other than sports on Thursday night. All here know I'm a Steelers fan, so that was my primary viewing, but I also enjoy baseball, and there were playoff games on that night.

In terms of who "won", all I can go by is the polling. And that is further complicated by how different the pollsters came in. CBS had it 50 Biden, 30 Ryan, 20 tie, whereas CNN had it 45 Biden, 43 Ryan, 12 tie. So the first has Biden a clear winner, and the second has Ryan within the polls margin of error.

EDIT: I also would like to point out that I don't think it really matters who won the VP debate. People tend to vote for the top of the ticket. The only time when you see a VP make a difference in polling is when one does something so huge that it tends to overshadow the presidential nominee. That happened in 2008 with Palin. I do not see either Biden nor Ryan fitting that model this year.
